Demon Hunter Wishlists for Midnight
Our Demon Hunter Writers, Shadarek (Havoc) and Itamae Vengeance, discuss the most significant issues plaguing their specs as well as the must-have changes they'd like to see prior to Midnight's launch in just a few short months.

Apex Talent Buff Tracking
There are 2 important buffs from Eternal Hunt, our new Apex talent in Midnight however neither of these buffs can be tracked currently. The first of these Eternal Hunt states it buffs the next Eye Beam, however it only lasts 12 seconds and will not buff Eye Beam after it expires. Currently this buff cannot be tracked despite being time sensitive, including if the buff expires during your Eye Beam channel the rest of the ticks will not be buffed. The second buff is from Eternal Hunt, where your next Death Sweep allows you to re-cast it again by resetting the cooldown. This again is an important buff to track with a direct rotational impact but currently that is not possible.
Damage Delta of ST and AoE builds
Havoc suffers from a significant Single-Target DPS loss to talent into AoE focused talents such as Ragefire, A Fire Inside, and Glaive Tempest. This puts you in a difficult position to opt into a large amount of AoE or Single Target DPS leaving Havoc feeling lacklustre in situations that call for both such as Mythic+ or some raid encounters. This is largely due to having to opt in to Immolation Aura for AoE damage at the cost of 4 talent points with nearly zero Single Target value. This causes many DPS specs to simply be tuned better often at both without any large talent build changes.
Debuff Clutter
Currently Havoc Demon Hunter suffers from Debuff bloat in Midnight. Our rotation naturally applies many debuffs which have zero gameplay impact, and while a few of them are blacklisted many are not from enemy NPC plates. For builds revolving around Throw Glaive talents specifically you will have Screaming Brutality talented which guarantees 100% up-time on Burning Wound and Serrated Glaive after your first Blade Dance cast, as well as a 50%+ up-time on Trail of Ruin while none of these debuffs have any gameplay alterations or impact they will clutter your mob debuffs. In an ideal world these filler debuffs would be filtered out like Chaos Brand is, as they simply add more useless information on screen that no longer can be removed by addons.

Talents, Spells, and Build Diversity
On Beta, some talents feel required while others are lackluster, which pigeonholes builds into essentially all being the same with only minor changes. Currently, none of the capstones in the class tree are appealing, partially due to lack of impact and partially because other talents make them redundant. This is a recurring issue throughout the tree. For example, we have Pursuit which is nearly always better than Felbound despite being in the same tier (though with our extra points you can take both), and Feed the Demon from the class tree makes Demonic Resilience irrelevant. In the spec tree, talents like Feast of Souls and Retaliation have had their numbers increased multiple times, but are still effectively worthless due to the mechanics of the spells. With the loss of Demonic, Fel Devastation has become a button that is rarely worth pressing despite the increase to its damage and healing values. The removal of Illuminated Sigils as well as general reduction in power to all sigils and Sigil of Chains now replacing Sigil of Misery when talented has reduced the value of sigil-related talents to not be worth taking. On a minor note, while I greatly appreciate the change to the defensive portion of Fiery Brand, it has made some of the related talents less valuable. Changes to Frailty have simplified Vengeance so players are less prone to immediately folding on pull, but this has also compressed our survivability to the point where we have no real tools for unexpected situations. All of this combined leads to stale builds where we essentially pick the same options in all content with only minor changes. There are many other examples, but with limited space we'll leave it at that.
Buffs and Resource Tracking
The Personal Resource Display and Buff Tracking has been improved greatly since Alpha, but is still missing major components for Vengeance. With the number of short term buffs we have available and not having all of them accessible in the Display's customization options for filtering, we end up needing to check our general buffs often. Additionally, Souls are still not considered a resource despite how integral they are to gameplay. They are not even whitelisted as a buff that we can track, so we have to check the Action Bar or Buff frame constantly due to the delayed spawns.
Rotational Flow, Spec Identity, and Role in Raids
The rotation for Vengeance has been simplified greatly, which is great for most situations, but all nuance has been removed. This means that our rotation effectively stays the same no matter the situation, since we don't really have any tools to change the outcome. Fury economy has been changed to provide less available generation and in concert with an increased cooldown on Fracture from 3 globals to 3.33, forces awkward gaps in execution. Meanwhile Metamorphosis forces the opposite problem - too much Fury to the point where overcapping resources is unavoidable. This makes the rotation very feast or famine, where there are many priority conflicts during our major cooldown while outside of it we almost don't have enough buttons to press or decisions to make. It seems as if we're more generally going back to the core of Souls and Metamorphosis being our primary spec identity, and have moved away from Sigils being a major part of it. However, sigils being so strong was a major factor in the strength of Vengeance for Mythic+ in the past, while it has never really had any place in Mythic Raiding outside of the first season of Shadowlands (and even then, it was only because of a bug increasing survivability greatly). Without sigils and any particular identity, I am concerned that Vengeance will continue to be one of the least preferred options for raids due to offering nothing unique such as immunities or utility, while the reduction to sigils will affect its place in Mythic+ in the future.
