The Forgotten Changes of Blades Edge Mountains

As players continue to progress from level 60-70 in Outland, they'll eventually come across the Blade's Edge Mountains; arguably one of the least popular leveling zones in the expansion. Although rich in unique lore regarding Rexxar, the Gronn, and even the Black Dragonflight, this zone often gets skipped due to its tedious navigation from spiky terrain and elevated levels.

However, something newer players may not know, and even seasoned veterans may have forgotten, is that Blades Edge Mountains did not look exactly like it used to during The Burning Crusade's original launch. Today, we remind players of what once was in this controversial zone.

Felstorm Point: the forgotten forge camp

In the original patch of TBC, the most northern part of Blade's Edge Mountain, The Crystal Spine, an area used for Ogri'la daily quests available in Patch 2.1 of TBC, used to have another demonic forge camp right in the middle, called Felstorm Point. This demonic camp was home to many demons of the Burning Legion, including Eredar Stormbringer, who appeared to be some boss for the camp, although he had no quests or objectives that led players to need to defeat him.

Although he appeared to serve no purpose, he did have a unique feature that he wasn't immune to Warlock's Subjugate Demon spell, allowing him to be tamed temporarily to either help farm the demons in the area, or terrorize players of the opposite faction! Outside of this, the area was used to farm materials due to the mobs having a fast respawn rate in the area. Whatever the original intent of this zone was, players would soon learn they would never find out.

Patch 2.1, Ogri'la, and the Sha'tari Skyguard

The arrival of Patch 2.1 would edit the Blade's Edge Mountains into the zone that more players are familiar with today. Not only was Felstorm Point removed, but in its place was the Crystal Spine, along with Bash'ir Landing. To the southwest, we would also be introduced to Ogri'l, a more developed faction of Ogres that players could farm reputation with! Along with this, we'd also get another faction to farm reputation with here, with the Sha'tari Skyguard!

To the north and south of Ogri'la are two forgecamps: Forge Camp Terror and Forge Camp Wrath. Although these are still in the game, a very notable change would be to the two Wrath Reavers guarding each camp. Before, these were level 72 elites that guarded the camps from players. Now, they are still present, but are since deactivated, and seem to serve more like scarecrows than actual threats. Perhaps the developers saw this as an unnecessary challenge for the area.
