Ultra Hardcore Addon on Curseforge
Xaryu's Ultra Hardcore Journey continues with Day Two, and Day Three (Deadmines). At the time of writing, we are still awaiting the fourth installment; however, we suspect it may be the final episode.
The Ultra Hardcore addon can be downloaded from Curseforge and used on Classic Hardcore servers, but be warned, it is not for the faint-hearted. This add-on will enhance your Hardcore experience, making it even more challenging. Elements of the Ultra Hardcore addon include:
No Healthbar
No Enemy Healthbar or Level
As you take damage, your field of view shrinks - see example below
Instead of a breath bar, the screen will appear redder as you run out of breath
No Mini Map
And More...
The field of view grows dimmer as you take damage, and changes color based on status effects.
With three difficulty levels: Lite, Recommended, and Experimental, players can configure this addon to their liking based on their personal risk tolerance:
Which Bonnie are you?
The Ultra Hardcore Addon Creator, Bonnie's Dad, goes into more detail about each of the features of this addon in this video:
Wowhead was fortunate enough to catch up with Bonnie's Dad to find out a bit more:
Wowhead's Interview with the Creator of the Ultra Hardcore Addon
Wowhead: Hey Bonniesdad, Thank you for your time today! So, to start, what inspired you to create this addon?
Bonnie's Dad: A multitude of things:
I've always been interested in game development and creating plugins/addons. This seemed like a good entry point to learning.
I watched a YouTube series called Unguided, which gave me the realisation that I was always trying to rush through the levels on WoW, rather than taking in the incredible game and stories. This addon was designed to make you more immersed in the game world and appreciate all of it.
I love a challenge.
Wowhead: Have you made anything similar before?
Bonnie's Dad: Ultra HC was my first addon. At the very beginning, it was incredibly basic. As mentioned above, I was learning how to write .lua code. I'd never seen it before!
Wowhead: We saw on Xaryu's video that you mentioned you were planning to update Ultra HC to prevent opening your spell book in combat. Is anything else in the pipeline?
Bonnie's Dad: A lot!
Bags can only be opened out of combat.
Your marker is removed from the map when outside the safe zone.
Fall damage gives a debuff that you need to bandage to fix.
These are just a few; there are a lot more ideas in the works.
My approach to making this addon was to create some core concepts (tunnel vision, hidden HP bars, etc), then throw out the question to the community, "What else do you want to see to make this more challenging?".
I try to implement every suggestion I receive, or at least give it a good go, and if it's not possible, explain why not to the person who gave the suggestion.
Wowhead: Do you play with the addon yourself?
Bonnie's Dad: I do and I love it - not to pat my own back. My problem is that I am always developing it, so I die in the most ridiculous ways. This morning, for example, I drowned because I was testing the new ultra HC breath indicator.
