Your First Mythic+ Dungeon in Midnight: Everything You Need to Know

Running Mythic+ dungeons for the first time? Here is a short overview of the essentials to Mythic+, and everything you need to know to conquer your first Mythic+ dungeon.

Midnight Season 1 Mythic+ Overview

What is Mythic+?
Mythic+ is the end-game system for dungeon content in World of Warcraft. This system takes the Mythic difficulty of a dungeon and adds additional challenges to make it even more difficult while giving greater rewards. Mythic+ dungeons are activated using a Mythic Keystone, with each Mythic Keystone having a certain level modifier assigned to it, starting from +2 and scaling infinitely. As levels increase, enemies deal more damage, gain more health, and bonus affixes become active to even further increase the challenge.

There are a few ways a Mythic+ dungeon differs from a Mythic dungeon:

Objective - Players are required to defeat every boss in a Mythic+ dungeon along with a certain number of Enemy Forces. Enemy Forces refer to any non-boss enemy in the dungeon. Each dungeon will require a certain number of Enemy Forces to be defeated.

Timer - Mythic+ dungeons are given a time limit. Players must complete the Objectives above within the time limit. Completing the Objectives within the time limit raises your Mythic Keystone by at least one level. If the Objectives are not completed within the time limit, the Mythic Keystone drops by a level.

Affixes - As a player climbs higher in Mythic+, certain additional challenges, formally called Affixes, become active, which further increase the difficulty of the dungeon. For example, Tyrannical is an affix that increases the health of dungeon bosses and causes them to deal additional damage.

In Mythic+, loot no longer drops from enemies and is instead rewarded from a chest at the end of the dungeon once all the Objectives have been completed. Loot is not guaranteed, as only two players receive loot from the chest. The item level of loot drops scales with Keystone difficulty, meaning higher-level dungeons drop stronger gear.

Why Should I Do Mythic+ in Midnight Season 1?
There are a few different reasons players should consider doing Mythic+ dungeons in Midnight Season 1. Let's start with everyone's favorite, rewards.

Mythic+ dungeons are not only a great source for higher item level gear, but there are many seasonal rewards available from each Season of Mythic+, including titles, mounts, and more. Midnight Season 1 brings new achievements to Mythic+ that we haven't seen before, meaning more rewards than ever before!

Midnight Season 1 Mythic+ Rewards

Secondly, Midnight Season 1 Mythic+ is statistically one of the easier Mythic+ seasons we've had, making it a great time to learn the basics since the stakes are low. Referencing Raider.io Statistics, Midnight Season 1 dungeons are being completed with close to a 90% success rate across all Keystone levels. These rates increase even further when looking specifically from the +2 to +3 range for Keystone levels.

While this data doesn't provide a complete picture due to factors like player disconnects and dungeon runs that we're never fully completed, many players are having strong success in Mythic+ this season. If you ever wanted to try Mythic+ yourself, now is the time to do so!

How to Get a Mythic Keystone
To start a Mythic+ dungeon, at least one player in the party will need a Mythic Keystone for the dungeon. There are a few ways players can earn a Mythic Keystone which will start at +2 difficulty by default:

Completing any Mythic 0 dungeon

Completing a Tier 11 Delve drops a Mythic Keystone from the Treasure Room.

Receiving any reward on the weekly reset from the Great Vault.

If you are not eligible for any of the above methods, Lindormi will give you one if you talk to her in Silvermoon City.

Completing a Mythic+ dungeon using another player's Mythic Keystone will reward you with one. The Keystone level will be one level lower than the completed dungeon (a +6 dungeon rewards a +5 Mythic Keystone, etc.).

Mythic Keystones cannot be deleted once acquired.

How to Queue into Mythic+ Dungeons Using Group Finder
Mythic+ dungeons are done with a party of five: one Tank, one Healer, and three DPS. For Mythic+, groups you may apply to are hosted by other players. Applicants are hand-selected to join the dungeon group, not randomly assigned. Players can either host or queue into Mythic+ dungeons using the Group Finder tool:

Open the Group Finder UI by pressing your assigned Keybind (Default: "i").

Navigate down to "Premade Groups" and left-click to open the tab.

Select the "Dungeons" option. To host your own Keystone, select the red "Start a Group" button. To search for other groups to apply to, select the red "Find a Group" button.

Make sure to include/look for all relevant information about the Keystone (Keystone Level, Dungeon, Playstyle, etc.). If hosting, select the red "List Group" button to allow others to apply to your group. If applying, select the group you'd like to join, then click the red "Sign Up" button.

If hosting, select the desired party members to invite to your group. If searching for other groups, you will receive an invite if the host accepts you. You can select "Accept" to join the group, or "Decline" to keep searching for other groups.

Once the party reaches 5 members, the Group Finder tool will close.

Make sure to include any relevant information when hosting or applying to groups!

Players should aim to be around 245 item level before queueing into Mythic+ groups, but that can vary based on player skill and the level you're looking to complete. Also, look to see if you can't acquire your 4-Piece Tier Set armor, as this is a large power increase and will ease the difficulty of Mythic+ dungeons. While this is just a rough approximation, activities like Delves and Nightmare Prey reward up to 246 Champion-Track gear, which will help boost your item level before going into Mythic+. There's no item level requirement for Mythic+, but having a higher item level than another applicant might be the winning factor in why you get invited.

Due to the large influx of DPS players applying to groups, players may have an easier time getting invited into a group if they queue as a Healer or Tank. Hosting your own group allows you to choose your group and level your own Mythic Keystone if you're willing to put in the effort.

Tips for Each Role in Mythic+
Each role plays a vital part in the success of the group's dungeon run. Here are a few tips for each role when completing a Mythic+ dungeon:

Tanks
Tanks control the pace of the dungeon, making it crucial that you are pulling appropriate packs of mobs based on the situation.

Use Defensive Cooldowns Appropriately - Certain boss or mob abilities, such as bleeds, armor debuffs, etc., pose a significant threat to your ability to stay alive. Using defensive cooldowns in these moments will be incredibly helpful.

Pull Mobs Based on the Group's Survivability - Mobs have many different ways to harm the group, such as AoE damaging spells, magic dispels, absorb shields, and so much more. Pulling too many mobs with threatening abilities will harm your team past a point where the Healer can keep up.

Make Use of Lindormi's Guidance - As a Tank, having an idea of what mobs you're going to pull a dungeon ahead of time is useful. From +2 to +5 dungeons, Lindormi's Guidance is active, highlighting mobs of packs to pull. This is a great tool to make use of in helping gain an idea as to how to pull a Mythic+ dungeon. If you're looking to see how other tanks are pulling dungeons, external resources like threechest.io also provide useful info on how players pull a dungeon.

Lindormi's Guidance is an incredibly useful tool for new tanks learning Mythic+ dungeons!

Healers
Healers have one goal: keep themselves and the group alive. There are a few things to keep in mind when healing a Mythic+ dungeon:

Learn Damage Events to Plan Healer Cooldowns Appropriately - Learning how damage is dealt to the party between packs and bosses helps you as a healer plan where to send your cooldowns most wisely. Big cooldowns like Apotheosis, Ascendance, and Tranquility can heal the party during the most significant damage events.

Dispel Magic Debuffs Often - As a healer, you are the main role that can dispel Magic debuffs. Magic debuffs display with a blue border around the player's frame. Dispelling Magic debuffs off your teammates helps keep them alive.

Use Raid-Style Party Frames - Raid Frames have certain functionality that is incredibly useful to Healers, like displaying debuffs, seeing when other players are using defensives, and more. Healers can enable Raid-Style Party Frames in Edit Mode, and we strongly recommend doing so.

DPS
As the main damage dealers in a dungeon, here are a few tips for DPS to help your group in Mythic+:

Watch Your Aggro/Threat - We all want to do tons of damage, but waiting a few extra seconds to allow your Tank to build Threat prevents you from getting hit by melee attacks from mobs. Especially in Mythic+, a basic melee from a mob hurts, sometimes even killing you in a single hit.

Optimize Your Talents - DPS specializations have tons of different talents that help them do damage to a certain number of mobs. In Mythic+, DPS players are looking to have a talent build that does extra cleave / AoE damage to multiple targets instead of strictly talenting Single-Target damage. Not sure what talents to use? Our Wowhead Class guide writers have created Mythic+ talent builds for each specialization in Patch 12.0.5!

Interrupt Mob casts often - In Midnight, Healers no longer have access to an interrupt, except for Restoration Shaman. Mob casts in Mythic+ can pose a great threat to the group if allowed to go off. Identifying which mobs have important casts to interrupt can be a key difference between success and failure.

Common Mistakes When Running Mythic+ Dungeons
Here are some common mistakes to avoid when running Mythic+ dungeons:

Being in the Wrong Talent Build - Once a Mythic+ dungeon begins, players cannot change their Talents unless they walk out of the dungeon. Before the dungeon begins, double-check to make sure you are in your Mythic+ talent build!

Not Using Cooldowns - Holding cooldowns is often the biggest bottleneck to your dungeon progression, especially as a DPS. Players should look to send their cooldowns as often as possible, even if it means not having them immediately available for a boss. Most DPS cooldowns are on a 2-minute or 3-minute cooldown. While this may seem like a long time, a Mythic+ dungeon takes roughly 25 minutes to complete, creating many opportunities for your cooldowns to come back for you to use again!

Accidentally Pulling Extra Mobs - Getting too close to mobs will cause them to start attacking you. In Mythic+ dungeons, pulling too many mobs at once can cause a group to wipe, losing time in the process. Make sure you are always giving yourself enough space away from additional mobs to prevent pulling any undesired mobs.

Not Using Party-Wide Cooldowns - Certain Classes have useful party-wide cooldowns. Bloodlust (Fury of the Aspects, Bloodlust, Time Warp, and Primal Rage) is a powerful 30% Haste buff that lasts 40 seconds. Bloodlust helps speed up the progression of a dungeon and becomes a requirement to use as you climb higher Keystone levels. Battle Res (Raise Ally, Rebirth, Intercession, and Soulstone) spells can bring an ally back to life during combat. This is especially helpful in Boss fights and can prevent a group wipe if the player is revived shortly after dying. Not making use of these abilities causes the party to lose out on additional utility and only makes the dungeon harder to complete.
