To Skip or Not To Skip? Tips for Heroic Slave Pens – The Burning Crusade Anniversary

The Slave Pens is one of the easier Heroic dungeons, and one that can be cleared in around 15 minutes due to the large amount of it you can skip! However, sometimes those "15-minute skip runs" turn into an hour+ wipe fest, especially when players get to the infamous bridge skip.

Slave Pens Strategy Guide

In this article, we show you how to do all the skips, but also how to complete the dungeon should you opt out of skipping!

How to Do the Slave Pens Skips

The video below shows all the skips and how to do them in the Slave Pens. If you have a group of players who are knowledgeable in how to do them, it can make a Slave Pens Heroic run completed in around 15 minutes!

However, if you have people who are unfamiliar with this strategy, it is honestly recommended to forgo the skips, as you'll likely spend more time failing than just completing the Heroic normally.

Group Composition for Slave Pens

The Slave Pens does not require a strict group composition, and does not favor ranged or melee any differently. The only thing players will really want to make sure they have is a class that can slow, such as a Hunter or Frost Mage, and a class that can interrupt. Having a Shaman for Tremor Totem is also recommended, as there are a handful of mobs that have AoE fears. Outside of that, feel free to bring whoever!

For Tanks, all three tanks will perform well here. The Paladin will want to have a Hunter or Frost Mage in their group, as kiting is a bit more required for this tank.

For healers, again, none will shine too bright over the other here. You will, however, want to make sure you have a good amount of healing power, just due to how hard the last two bosses, Rokmar the Crackler and Quagmirran, hit. The latter also has an AoE Poison Bolt Volley, so make sure you either have someone who can cleanse poisons or provide strong AoE healing.

Trash Tips for Slave Pens

The first mobs players will encounter are the Greater Bogstroks, these deal pretty significant damage to your tanks, and depending on the gear, it is recommended to kite these under a Frost Trap or Blizzard. A large portion of melee mobs, such as the Coilfang Champion and Coilfang Defender, should also either be kited, stunned, or disarmed as much as possible to mitigate as much damage to your tank as possible.

If you ever pull any of the Coilfang Slavehandlers and aggro the Wastewalkers nearby, it is recommended to just kill the Slavehandler as quickly as possible to de-aggro the wastewalkers. If the Wastewalkers are not close enough to the Slavehandler when killed, they will not de-aggro.

The two most dangerous mobs in this dungeon are the Coilfang Soothsayer and Coilfang Ray. You should either nuke these mobs down asap or CC them. The Coilfang Ray can be Hibernated by a Druid, and the Coilfang Soothsayer can be Mind Controlled by a Shadow Priest. The Shadow Priest can Mind Control many mobs in this Heroic, so have some fun with it if you have one in your party!

Boss Tips for Slave Pens

The bosses in Slave Pens are not particularly challenging. Aside from hitting hard and some AoE damage, they're fairly straightforward.

For the first boss, Mennu the Betrayer will drop a plethora of totems. You should make sure to take all of them out asap, EXCEPT FOR Corrupted Fire Nova Totem. If this totem spawns, move away from it ASAP. If this totem is hit, it will deal massive, potentially fatal damage to anyone nearby.

The second boss, Rokmar the Crackler, deals heavy-hitting damage to your tank and will apply Grievous Wound to the tank. Personal and external defensives, like Pain Suppression, will trivialize this encounter. For tanks, using a Super Healing Potion or Master Healthstone when you're close to full HP can help remove the Grievous Wound debuff.

For the final boss, Quagmirran, when he casts Acid Geyser on a random target, tanks can taunt the boss back to redirect the damage to them. Make sure the DPS and Healer spread out to mitigate who gets hit by the initial damage from this ability.
