In addition to this, Blizzard and NetEase also announced changes to the Destruction Warlock specialization, which should provide them with enhanced AoE damage.
Following the weekly maintenance on April 16th, we will be making the following optimizations and adjustments to the Warlock Destruction talent tree in the Titan Reforging server "Time":
Destruction Warlock gameplay rework
Before going into detail about this optimization, we'd like to discuss some long-standing issues that Destruction Warlocks have faced regarding their class characteristics and gameplay positioning, and how these changes will address these issues.
Occupational characteristics issues:
As points are invested in the talent tree, Destruction Warlocks become increasingly reliant on fire damage, until eventually only fire spells become truly effective. Many Destruction Warlocks even forgo key talents (such as Shadowburn and Shadowfury) because they are relatively weak in PvE. We believe that when the Warlock's damage output no longer includes shadow spells, the specialization should be renamed "Fire" rather than "Destruction," to better correspond with the Fire Mage. However, since the talent tree is named "Destruction," we hope to re-establish its core positioning—making Destruction a true intersection of shadow and fire, allowing fire and shadow to merge and unleash even greater power.
Gameplay positioning issue:
The Destruction Warlock's gameplay still has many areas for improvement. The current rotation lacks both the necessary chaos and the experience of attempting to control an unstoppable force. While we remain cautious about increasing the complexity of the rotation—because many players still using this talent at this stage do prefer its relatively straightforward and simple gameplay—we ultimately believe that the Destruction Warlock's current situation is somewhat similar to that of the Subtlety Rogue: the necessity of continuing with the existing gameplay is relatively limited, so we hope to take this opportunity to reshape the combat style that the "Destruction Warlock" should have.
Due to adjustments to some talents and spells, all warlocks who have allocated points in the Destruction talent tree will have their talents automatically reset.
New Talent
Chaotic meteor (line 9)
This talent consists of two parts: one part introduces new mechanics and functions for warlocks, and the other part is the spell itself.
Mark of Destruction (mechanic):
Destruction spells that deal direct damage will apply either Shadow Mark or Ash Mark to the target, depending on their spell properties. Each mark can stack up to 6 times.
Chaos Meteor (Spell)
Unleash Chaos Meteor on all targets within 48 yards that simultaneously possess both Shadow Mark and Ash Mark. This spell deals Shadowflame damage, with the damage increasing based on the number of Shadow Mark and Ash Mark stacks on the target. Chaos Meteor cannot be resisted, but its damage to players is reduced by 50%.
Note: Chaos Meteor is a brand new skill that bombards targets affected by Shadow Mark and Ash Mark. This skill deals significant damage and is worth investing points in and using. Many related talents also provide support and synergy for this skill. This design aims to further shape a new gameplay style for the Warlock class: encouraging players to cast shadow spells, bringing Shadow Bolt back into the rotation, and adding additional mechanics to create a complete gameplay loop.
Chaotic Rain (line 9)
Apply an additional stack of Mark to your Combustion, Shadowburn, Shadowflame, and Shadowfury; Shadowflame's damage over time applies Shadow Mark; Rain of Fire and Hellfire's area damage applies Ash Mark.
Note: Nothing embodies the Destruction Warlock's playstyle quite like unleashing a Chaos Meteor upon enemies, and the Chaos Rain talent further enhances the support for Chaos Meteor through Shadowburn, Shadowflame, and Shadowfury. We felt it wasn't quite right to make Seed of Corruption the Destruction Warlock's strongest AoE tool. Therefore, we designed a build-up-burst AoE rotation around Destruction spells, while also providing an easier way to apply Marks to multiple targets in the AoE rotation. That's right—you'll unleash a Meteor on all eligible targets. Oh, and the size of the Meteor will increase/decrease based on the number of Marks stacks on the target.
Talent changes
Ash Storm (line 6)
Renamed "Master of Destruction", now has 1 talent point (previously 5 talent points).
Increases the damage of your Destruction spells by 15%, reduces the cast time of Incinerate by 0.25 seconds, and reduces the mana cost of your Shadowburn and Shadowfury by 30%.
Note: This change is intended to further enhance shadow spells and narrow the gap between them and fire spells.
Soul extraction (line 7)
Merged with the Enhanced Soul Extraction talent, it is now a 1-point talent.
Enhance Soul Extraction (line 8)
Remove
Note: Neither Soul Drain nor Improved Soul Drain is a particularly attractive talent, and they each occupy 3 and 2 talent points respectively, totaling 5 points. Considering that players are likely to re-select Improved Shadow Bolt, we believe there is no need to retain these 5 points, so we have merged them, thereby freeing up some talent points to allocate.
Shadow Fury:
Moving from line 9 to line 8 is the prerequisite talent for the new talent "Chaotic Meteor".
Disaster (line 1)
In addition to its original effects, the Cataclysm talent will also reduce the cast time of Chaos Meteor by 0.2/0.4/0.6/0.8/1.0 seconds.
Destruction extends (fourth line)
In addition to its original effects, the Destruction Extension talent also increases the range of Shadowburn spells by 5/10 yards and increases the radius of your Hellfire, Rain of Fire, Shadowfury, and Shadowflame by 10%/20%.
Note: Shadowburn's short range made it less effective in actual combat, so we've increased its casting range. At the same time, we've also expanded the damage area of Destruction AoE spells to make them easier to use.
Destroyed (5th floor)
In addition to its original effects, the Destruction talent will also prevent your Combustion spells from consuming the Immolate or Shadowflame effects you cast on your target, and will prevent Shadowburn from consuming Soul Shards.
Note: The Glyph of Combustion has always been the default choice for Destruction Warlocks in PvE. While in some situations players might want to remove their own Immolate or Shadowflame effects to prevent their damage from breaking control effects, these situations are uncommon and don't warrant a glyph slot occupied by a mechanic more suited to be integrated into talents. At the same time, we've further improved the usability of Shadowburn; players no longer need to worry about Soul Shard count when using it. After the changes go live, you might even have more Soul Shards than you can use!
Shadowflame (line 8)
In addition to its original effects, the Shadowflame talent will also increase the spell damage bonus of your Chaos Meteor spell by 4/8/12/16/20%.
Sulfur fire (line 10)
In addition to its original effect, when the target has your Immolate effect, it will also increase the damage dealt to it by your Chaos Meteor spell by 2/4/6/8/10%.
Little Devil Enhancement:
Move from line 9 to line 8.
Glyph Changes
Burning Glyph
It has been removed, and its effects have been merged into the Destruction talent.
New glyph: "Chaos Meteor Glyph"
Requires level 50
When your Chaos Meteor deals damage, it applies 1 to 4 additional stacks of Mark, randomly distributed between Shadow and Ash Mark.
Note: With the addition of the Chaos Meteor glyph, the Destruction Warlock's new "accumulation-burst" rotation is finally complete. This glyph adds randomness and chaos to the entire rotation. It works as follows: the target will always gain at least one mark, but another mark may have zero stacks. If the random result is four marks, these four marks will not all fall on the same mark; that is, when four marks appear, it will only be three Shadow + one Ash, or one Shadow + three Ash. Therefore, players need to adjust their spellcasting choices according to the current rotation rhythm, skill cooldowns, and the number of marks applied by each skill.
Overview
We understand that this rotation will be more complex, but we also believe it will make playing Destruction Warlocks more fun. Our current focus is on getting everyone to experience these changes as quickly as possible, and then continuously optimizing and adjusting them over time.
Finally, we would also like to share the design philosophy behind this professional redesign:
This allows the Destruction Warlock's damage rotation to revolve around both Shadow and Fire, rather than solely focusing on Fire spells.
This provides Destruction Warlocks with a satisfying large burst of damage.
By adding randomness, the Destruction Warlock can better experience the feeling of controlling chaotic energy and unstoppable power in the cycle, prompting players to constantly adjust their judgment in the actual combat cycle, decide which skills to cast next, and complete a series of hellish revelries.
In AOE scenarios, this allows Destruction Warlocks to cycle more around Destruction spells.
