The Shadowhunters’ Hexblade – New Two-Bladed Cosmetic Sword in Patch 12.1

The Shadowhunters' Hexblade is a new two-bladed sword on the Patch 12.1 PTR, giving more classes the opportunity to transmog a warblade-like weapon!

The sword is suggested to be a future trading post item, though that is so far unconfirmed.

Alongside the Nightforged Spellblade and original Warglaive of Azzinoth set, these types of dual-bladed swords are extremely rare, despite being a prominent feature of D&D-inspired fantasy and heavily featured in Warcraft via the Elven Spellbreakers. These weapons made a resurgence with the introduction of Demon Hunters in World of Warcraft: Legion, though the vast majority are categorized as class-specific Warglaives, leaving them unavailable to everyone else in the game.

Blood Elf heritage armor and decor duel cosmetics are extremely close to the iconic spellbreaker, though the Spellbreaker's Shieldwall is currently bugged.

Exceptions to this restriction have slowly grown over time, most recently with the addition of the Nightforged Spellblade from Legion Timewalking, as well as the Priestess' Starblade, Sisterhood's Crescent, Priestess' Starpoint, and Sisterhood's Moonlance introduced in the previous March Trading Post. Patch 12.0.5 finally added the Spellbreaker's Phoenixblade and similar variants to the Decor Duel vendor, allowing players to recreate the iconic Spellbreaker look, though not all of the items are properly tagged to actually learn their transmog and some of the pieces appear oddly undersized.

Matching the classic Shadow Hunter look of Warcraft III is a little trickier, though the Darkspear Troll heritage armor comes pretty close!

In any event, these types of weapons remain fairly rare outside of Demon Hunter-specific warglaives, so even a relatively basic addition like this new Shadowhunters' Hexblade is a welcome one, especially for anyone trying to create a Witch Doctor or Shadow Hunter transmog!
