Classic Consumables That Are Still Useful in The Burning Crusade Anniversary

With The Burning Crusade just around the corner, many consumables from Classic will still be viable once the Dark Portal opens!

Burning Crusade Consumables Overview

As pre-patch approaches, now could be a great time to start investing in these to either use as raid consumables later or sell for a profit to help cover expenses in The Burning Crusade.

Potions & Elixirs

Free Action Potion

While the usage of Free Action Potion won't be as common as it was in Classic Anniversary, it'll still have some uses.

Some examples of use include flag carrying in Warsong Gulch and, later, during the trash waves in Hyjal Summit, especially those that contain Abominations, as they perform a knockdown.

Hyjal Summit Trash Strategy Guide

Elixir of Demonslaying

Elixir of Demonslaying is an absolute must-have for all melee DPS in The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary. This consumable can be used during the following boss encounters:

Karazhan: Terestian Illhoof and Prince Malchezaar

Gruul's Lair: No use in this raid

Magtheridon's Lair: Magtheridon

Serpentshrine Cavern: No use in this raid

Tempest Keep: No use in this raid

Zul'Aman: No use in this raid

Hyjal Summit: Anetheron, Kaz'rogal, Azgalor, and Archimonde

Black Temple: Supremus, Mother Shahraz, and Illidan Stormrage

Sunwell Plateau: Brutallus, Grand Warlock Alythess & Lady Sacrolash, M'uru during his second phase when he morphs into Entropius, and Kil'jaeden

For players looking to push performance, plan on bringing Elixir of Demonslaying along with your other consumables for non-Demon bosses, whether that's a Flask or a different Battle Elixir.

The Burning Crusade Raid Overview

Gift of Arthas

Gift of Arthas takes up a Guardian Elixir slot and is excellent for tanks to use, as it could inflict the target with a disease that increases all damage taken by 8 for 3 minutes.

Swiftness of Zanza

Another Guardian Elixir, Swiftness of Zanza is excellent for groups pushing for speed, but it's also a great option for melee dps, especially on fights that require additional movement, as the more uptime you have on an enemy, the more damage you'll do.

Elixir of the Mongoose

While Elixir of Major Agility is introduced in The Burning Crusade and provides similar stats to Elixir of the Mongoose, believe it or not, Elixir of the Mongoose actually provides slightly more critical strike rating for classes such as Warrior, Rogue, and Hunter!

Scrolls

Scroll of Strength IV

While Scroll of Strength IV will be upended by Scroll of Strength V, there won't be many Scroll of Strength V in circulation for a while. Also, the difference between these scrolls isn't massive, with the Scroll of Strength IV providing 17 Strength and the Scroll of Strength V giving 20 Strength.

These can be used alongside a Battle and Guardian Elixir combo or a Flask.

Scroll of Agility IV

The same rules apply here as Scroll of Strength IV and Scroll of Strength V. Scroll of Agility IV provides 17 Agility while Scroll of Agility V grants 20 Agility.

Scroll of Protection IV

There's one other scroll that Tanks could pursue, and that's Scroll of Protection IV, which provides 240 Armor. In The Burning Crusade, you'll eventually seek out Scroll of Protection V, which grants 300 Armor.

Food

Dragonbreath Chili

Dragonbreath Chili is a Classic favorite that pairs well with Smoked Desert Dumplings. While this isn't the case in The Burning Crusade, one option could be to use Dragonbreath Chili alongside Oil of Immolation and the TBC consumable Flame Cap.

Currently, on the PTR, all three can be used at the same time, which could make for some explosive damage on trash encounters!

Items From Engineering

Masterwork Target Dummy

Masterwork Target Dummy requires 275 Engineering, but if you're an Engineer, we strongly recommend bringing these to your raid. These can be dropped to divert mobs' attention and have them attack this instead. A target dummy could be the difference between a wipe and staying alive if you accidentally overpull trash mobs.

Arcane Bomb

Arcane Bomb can be used on trash mobs that are comprised of mana users and casters. It'll silence those mobs, allow for them to stack, and make it easier to cleave them down.

One of the most popular uses is during Hyjal Summit trash waves.

Goblin Sapper Charge

Goblin Sapper Charge (205 Engineering required) is currently popular in Classic, but it can be used alongside the improved Burning Crusade version, Super Sapper Charge.

After popping Super Sapper Charge, the Goblin Sapper Charge has a 1-minute cooldown. So, on encounters that'll last longer than that, you can use both!

Other Consumables

Oil of Immolation

As mentioned above, Oil of Immolation can be used at the same time as Dragonbreath Chili and Flame Cap. This consumable deals fire damage, and Flame Cap will increase the fire damage done by Oil of Immolation.

Snowballs

Right now, the Winter Veil Holiday Event is going on (but ends on January 2nd, 2026), and there's an NPC in each major city where you can purchase Snowball in increments of 5 for just 10 copper.

These become useful for mana users, as when Seal of Wisdom is cast on a boss, you can use these as an instant cast to help you regain mana quickly. We strongly recommend macroing these into abilities to streamline that process.

Feast of Winter Veil Holiday Event Guide

Dark Rune

Dark Rune is still plenty helpful for mana users, as, for the cost of some health, you'll regain 900 to 1,500 mana. These can be farmed in Scholomance with Scholomance Necromancer offering the highest drop rate.

Brilliant Wizard Oil

While Superior Wizard Oil is introduced in The Burning Crusade, casters will actually prefer Brilliant Wizard Oil despite the lower spell power due to the 14 critical strike rating.

Magic Dust

Magic Dust can assist with crowd control during raids. This can be farmed from Dust Devil in Westfall with a 13% drop rate.

Straholme Holy Water

Stratholme Holy Water can be used on any Undead boss or trash mob. Some notable examples of when to use these are during Nightbane trash waves, as well as these boss encounters:

Karazhan: Attumen the Huntsman, Moroes, Shade of Aran, Romulo/Julianne (Opera Event), and Nightbane.

Gruul's Lair: No use in this raid

Magtheridon's Lair: No use in this raid

Serpentshrine Cavern: No use in this raid

Tempest Keep: No use in this raid

Zul'Aman: No use in this raid

Hyjal Summit: Rage Winterchill

Black Temple: Teron Gorefiend

Sunwell Plateau: Felmyst

Stratholme Holy Water was originally nerfed during Patch 2.4, so this will be something to monitor. However, currently on the PTR, that's not the case, and it scales with spell damage.

Do you have any of these prepared as the Burning Crusade Anniversary pre-patch approaches on January 13th, 2026? Let us know in the comments down below!
