Sadly you won't see the Orc bathing in an epic jet of flame, but it's actually a fairly common practice. Outdoor bronze and several types of stone sculptures are often waxed to protect them from the elements and prevent the deterioration of the material, and like anything, it needs to be cleaned periodically.
