Sanctification No Longer Has Downsides – Diablo 4 Season 11 Update

In the patch notes following the Diablo 4 Season 11 PTR, Blizzard has changed Sanctification outcomes to no longer include downsides or "bricks", only upgrades! The system received heavy backlash after initial testing, with players voicing frustrations about Unique and Mythic items having core affixes replaced with Sanctified Affixes, which were often much worse.

Sanctification System in Season 11 Season 11 Overview
In addition to Ancestral Uniques and Mythic items no longer having the "replace affix" outcome, the Indestructible or "do nothing" outcome has been replaced with an additional hit of Quality, increasing the base armor/attack of an item, as well as the value of the affixes on the item! There has also been a large tuning pass, with the vast majority of affixes receiving hefty buffs and having higher maximum outcomes. Additional Legendary powers have also been added.

Sanctification

Upgrading an affix to a Greater Affix can now also occur on non-ancestral items.

Affixes on Ancestral Unique or Mythic Items can no longer be replaced.

Indestructible affix replaced by "Add 5 - 25 Quality".

To sanctify an item, it only needs to have an item power of 750 or higher in Torment difficulties, rather than being Ancestral.

Affix ranges have been adjusted across the board. In general, affix values have been increased, and ranges have been narrowed, and some affixes now have a higher maximum

Additional Legendary powers have been added.

With the change to items no longer needing to be Ancestral to undergo Sanctification, it should be possible to Sanctify gear earlier in the Season, rather than hoarding resources waiting for a good drop in higher Torment difficulties, to avoid waste.

All New Sanctification Outcomes
With the changes to the Sanctification system, the new list of outcomes is as follows:

Apply a bonus Legendary power

Improve an Affix into a Greater Affix

Add a bonus Affix from a pool of special Sanctification affixes

Replace an existing Affix with a random Sanctification affix. This cannot roll on Ancestral Uniques and Mythic items.

Add Quality

Every outcome here will lead to a positive impact on the given item, and the powerful affixes on Uniques and Mythics are now conserved instead of replaced.

Impact of Sanctification Changes
The impact of these changes will make the Sanctification System play quite differently when Season 11 goes live. Due to hard-earned and rare Unique and Mythic items being immune to "bricked" outcomes or neutral outcomes, players might opt to use Sanctification on more common items first.

By using Sanctification on more common items, like Legendaries, there are more options to get powerful bonuses from the system first, granting a significant spike in early character power. Rather than gambling on a Uniques or Mythics, Legendaries are easily replaced, allowing for getting rare outcomes on those slots first, then going back and upgrading the rare Uniques and Mythics afterwards.
