Same Style, New Slots: What’s New with Midnight Enchanting?

Midnight introduces some new changes to both Crafting and Gathering Professions. While players expect Profession updates each time a new expansion launches, Midnight is iterating on the previous Dragonflight and War Within concepts of each profession, adjusting difficulties, adding new mechanics, and providing new types of crafts.

We're taking a look at what's new and different with each Profession - this time, with a look at Enchanting! If you're looking to learn everything about Enchanting in the new expansion, you can find extensive information in our Midnight Enchanting Guide, as well as overall Profession information in our Profession Overview.

What's New with Midnight Enchanting?

One of the least changed Professions heading into the new expansion, Midnight Enchanting will be very familiar to players. Nothing material has been gained or lost with the traditional expansion changes, even keeping the Shatter Essence buff system that was introduced in The War Within (and then subsequently removed in Midnight for other Professions, like Blacksmithing). What is new, though, is that players will have different slots to enchant this time around, and some of them are less common!

In Midnight, players will lose the Bracers and Cloak Enchantments from The War Within, and instead will gain Helm and Shoulder enchantments. This is notable because traditionally, these two slots have not been available for Enchanters; instead, any time Helms or Shoulders have been augmented, it's been through other professions (such as Boon of the Builder from Engineering in Legion) or specific Reputation-or Quest-based boosts (like the Incandescent Essence). In fact, through all previous expansions, there has ever only been one Shoulder enchant for the profession, and no Helm enchants at all: Boon of the Scavenger in Legion.

This slot change-up could be exciting, because it may mean Blizzard has something in store for those underutilized (for Enchanting at least) slots - but we'll have to wait and see!
