We previously datamined strings referring to "Rapid Renown Catchup" on characters, and although there isn't any information yet about how this faster catchup will work, it should help quickly bring players up to Renown 40 so that they can keep on pace with Patch 9.1 content.

Renown 40 Catchup Confirmed in Patch 9.1 Chains of Domination
During the quickfire portion of his interview with Sloot, Lead Game Designer Morgan Day confirmed that there will be some sort of a catch up system for getting to 40 Renown in Patch 9.1.
