Mysterious New Vanilla Patch 1.60.0 Found on Encrypted Vendor Build – Is Blizzard Testing Classic+?

Players who have been around long enough have seen a pattern in the way that Blizzard releases specific patch numbers. These patches typically begin with the expansion number (1.x for Vanilla, 2.x for The Burning Crusade, etc.), followed by the most recent Phase, and then the smaller build within that Phase.

Blizzard Excited to Reveal Next Version of Classic

For example, Classic Era (2019) began with Patch 1.13, Classic's first seasonal server, Season of Mastery, began with 1.14, and the most recent season, Season of Discovery began with Patch 1.15. The most recent version of Classic Anniversary is on Patch 1.15.8, which presumably will be the final major patch before the servers progress into the Dark Portal.

Because of the standardized pattern of these patch numbers over time, one might expect any new version of Classic to begin with Patch 1.16. However, a new build on Blizzard's internal servers has been discovered, which greatly surpasses any patch number we have seen in the past - 1.60.0!

The significance of this enormous leap in patch numbers is unknown, but the fact that the patch begins with a 1.x indicates that this build exists in a Vanilla setting.

Could this be the first internal test build for the highly-anticipated Classic+? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
