How Player Housing Dyes and Color Customization Work

Some housing decor pieces don't fit your aesthetic, but with dyes, that can be remedied! With crafted dyes, decor can go to the next level for your home. To see an example of every dye color, we compiled all 62 available colors from the Midnight beta in one post.

Crafting and Obtaining Housing Dyes
To dye your decor, you will of course need the dyes! To get dyes, two professions can craft them: Alchemy and Inscription. These recipes are learned automatically and do not require any training.

To craft the dyes themselves, 10 of any expansion's herb can be used to craft one pigment, which then can be turned into one dye. Certain herbs will give specific colors, so while you can use herbs from any expansion, their colors are predetermined. Double-check before you go farming!

Of course, you can also buy the housing dyes of your dreams through the Auction House if you prefer that over crafting them. These are considered commodities, and their supply is part of the region-wide auction house regardless of server affiliation.

Using Housing Dyes
Using Dyes is as easy as clicking decor items with the Customize brush (default key 3). This will open up the dye window, allowing you to color certain trims and base colors depending on the decor item. In the example below, there are three different Dye slots, each coloring a predetermined portion of the item.

You can freely preview them on a piece of placed decor, but an excellent alternative is to use our Decor Gallery to find Decor that can be dyed, then check the dyes there before you go out and get all the materials.

The Decor Gallery can be filtered to show only decor that can be dyed, making this process even easier. This filter can also be used in-game using the built-in filters on your character's decor catalog.
