Earn Cosmetic Rewards with the New Prey System in Midnight – Optional Content with Ramping Difficulty

Editor's Note: A previous version of this article stated that the Prey system had no Player Power rewards tied to it. We have corrected this phrasing to no known Player Power rewards - it is possible that Blizzard may add these in the future, but all revealed rewards are currently cosmetic.

The Midnight expansion has been announced at Gamescom 2025, and one of the new reveals is a new open world gameplay system: Prey!

Midnight Overview Midnight Preorders

Hunt Powerful Enemies with the New Prey System
The Prey system is a new open-world system coming in Midnight. Led by Magister Astalor Bloodsworn and based in Murder Row in Silvermoon City, the Prey system enlists you to hunt powerful enemies across Midnight zones for fame, fortune, and rewards. The best part is, this new system is entirely optional, so players can choose not to participate if they don't want to.

While engaging with the Prey system, a new UI element will appear on your screen, changing as the hunt intensifies. While hunting, you may also be ambushed at any time! This UI element will work similarly to the Eye of the Jailer system we had in early Shadowlands.

There are three difficulty tiers players can choose when engaging with the Prey system. This system is inspired by both Diablo Torment levels and the Heroic World Tier we will see during Legion Remix.

Normal - Introductory hunts, mostly easy, to allow players to familiarize themselves with the system. This will not be much different in difficulty from normal open-world content.

Hard - Introduces Torments, which will increase the challenge of a hunt, and confines final encounters to a single stage.

Nightmare - Further increases the challenge of hunts. Corpse runs are expected.

Prey System Rewards - From Housing to Mounts
As of right now, known rewards for the Prey System are entirely cosmetic, including cosmetic transmogs, mounts, titles, and new items for your house! We don't currently know what, if any, player power can be obtained from the Prey System, which adds to it being entirely optional to participate in.

Will you engage with the Prey System in Midnight? What rewards are you expecting to see from the Prey system?
