Defeating Crawth in Algeth’ar Academy

Crawth is one of the more troubling fights in Algeth'ar Academy. Here is a general strategy to help simplify this boss fight.

Algeth'ar Academy Overview Midnight Season 1 Mythic+ Overview

Crawth Boss Breakdown
Crawth received a few reworks since Dragonflight. The biggest change is with Ruinous Winds, a devastating AoE spell that occurs at 75% and 45% health. Crawth unleashes gusts of wind every 3 seconds, dealing massive Nature damage and knocking players back.

To interrupt this spell, players will need to grab 3 kickballs and deliver them to one of two goals. Each goal activates a unique effect for the remainder of the boss fight.

Goal of the Searing Blaze

Goal of the Rushing Winds

Searing Blaze is marked with a red ball and Rushing Winds with a blue ball.

The Goal of Searing Blaze triggers Firestorm. Firestorm unleashes red swirlies every few seconds around the arena, dealing damage and stunning anyone standing in them for three seconds. For the first 12 seconds of Firestorm, the boss takes 75% increased damage, but pulses AoE damage due to Blistering Fire.

The Goal of the Rushing Winds triggers Gale Force. Gale Force summons tornadoes around the boss arena and creates a small pushback effect on the party. When Gale Force triggers, there will be small air motes around the arena that players can pick up for a 45% Haste and 50% movement speed buff that lasts 20 seconds. These air motes also make you immune to the pushback effect! The air motes only stay active for 20 seconds, so make sure these get grabbed before they disappear.

Air Motes are marked with a small blue arrow above them.

Crawth Boss Strategy
As a general strategy, it is recommended to trigger the Goal of the Rushing Winds first. Especially in higher keys, the pulsing AoE damage from Blistering Fire can put a lot of extra stress on the healer. Healers already have to worry about healing Deafening Screech for the entire fight. Delaying extra damage-over-time effects for as long as possible is helpful. The stun effect from the fire swirlies can also cause a lot of inconvenience.

DPS players will want to hold any larger cooldowns if the boss is nearing 45% health. At 45%, throw three kickballs into the Goal of the Searing Blaze and activate Firestorm. The boss takes 75% increased damage for the first 12 seconds of Firestorm. Pop DPS cooldowns and burn the boss as quickly as possible!

Healers and casters will want to stop casting before Deafening Screech goes off to avoid being silenced for six seconds.
