How to Upgrade your Scale of the Sands Ring

Players who complete their Hyjal Summit attunement will obtain an Epic ring for doing so, with a ring available for each class role. In Phase 3, players can upgrade that ring as they gain more reputation, rewarding them with a powerful, specialized piece of gear.

Scale of the Sands Reputation Guide

Complete the Mount Hyjal Attunement

Players will need to complete their Mount Hyjal attunement to unlock the The Scale of the Sands reputation. All you have to do is complete the one-part quest: The Vials of Eternity, defeating and looting Lady Vashj in Serpentshrine Cavern and Kael'thas Sunstrider in Tempest Keep. In Phase 3, players can now go straight to these bosses without having to complete the rest of the raid, so if you are behind, it won't be too uncommon to find "last boss only" groups for this quest.

Once you complete this quest, you will become Friendly with the Scale of the Sands, awarding you with the first item level 128 ring.

Increase your Reputation

The only way to increase your reputation from here is to kill mobs located in the Battle of Mount Hyjal raid. Most trash grants 12 reputation, Frost Wyrms grant 60, and bosses grant 375 (except Archimonde, who grants 1500 reputation). A full clear of Hyjal Summit will give around 8500 reputation, meaning it will take about five weeks of full clears (without trash resets) to reach the max. When you achieve Exalted, you'll get the following item level 152 rings:

Champion's CovenantBand of the Eternal Champion350
Sage's CovenantBand of the Eternal Sage350
Defender's CovenantBand of the Eternal Defender350
Restorer's CovenantBand of the Eternal Restorer350

If you want to get your Exalted ring ASAP, players often do "Hyjal Trash Farms", where they will do the first 7 waves of the raid, then let the mobs overcome the Alliance, which will trigger a wipe, thus resetting the raid. If you're not trying to get any of the trash drops from these, this is a very easy way to get your reputation up fast!

important Tips for Tanks

Our Protection Warrior guide writer, Beanna, shares a very helpful tip for tanks and which rings they should pick as their reputation increases:

For mitigation rings, Band of the Eternal Defender immediately comes to mind, but there is a catch... The Armor proc does not stack with your usual Scroll of Protection V and, even worse, overwrites your scroll buff entirely! Unfortunately, this low proc chance <10% uptime armor buff ends up only hurting your overall mitigation compared to the permanent effect of a Scroll of Protection V, which makes the Exalted Tank ring simply unusable for any serious tank using scrolls.

Thank you to Beanna for that amazing tip on these rings!
