The Possible Next Iteration of WoW Classic
Season of Discovery was a success beyond our wildest imagination back in 2023. We learned so much, we grew as a team both literally and figuratively, and we’ve been invigorated for the future like never before. That future for Season of Discovery is somewhat bittersweet, as we’ve made the decision to slow down on Season of Discovery and begin work on our next major project in the original WoW design space.
The community has designated this "next major project" as Classic+. But what exactly is Classic+? Well, as mentioned earlier, Blizzard has yet to release any official information, but the general thought is that Classic+ should be an extension of the world of Vanilla Azeroth. Imagine if, after Naxxramas, instead of entering the Dark Portal and heading to Outland, we just stayed in Azeroth.
While no one can seem to agree on the exact content that should be added to the Vanilla world of Azeroth, many believe that the Classic development team should continue to work on content from WoW's early development that, for one reason or another, didn't make it into the game before it launched in 2004. Some examples of this early content include zones, dungeons, and raids from the original map, some of which already have partially developed zones.

Other types of content that could be added or changed, such as class balancing, Specialization reworks, or system changes, are all highly debated topics amongst the community. Surveys and voting on the Classic+ Project have given us a glimpse at what players agree could work best in a new version of Classic, but there's no guarantee that any of these ideas will make it into the game.
Many players are expecting a big announcement at this year's BlizzCon on September 12th. Until then, we'll keep track of everything Classic+ related on our official Classic+ Overview Guide. Here, you can keep up with all of the speculation, evidence, and datamining related to WoW Classic's upcoming major project. This Guide will continue to be updated when more news comes out regarding this upcoming project, so feel free to add it to Your Pinboard, and check back often!
