Should Classic+ Include Optimized Flight Paths From The Burning Crusade?

Anyone who has played Classic will know the inconvenience of a zone that either doesn't have a Flight Point for your faction or an egregiously long Flight Path that doesn't seem to make much sense. While many players agree that part of the "Classic feel" is the friction built into the game, it's hard to argue against the additional Flight Points and Optimized Flight Paths introduced during The Burning Crusade expansion.

Dungeon Changes in Classic+

Jediwarlock released a video going over all of the Flight Points that were added to the original map of Vanilla, before the Cataclysm expansion. Additionally, voters on the wowclassic.plus website agree that some of these new Flight Points and Flight Path optimizations would fit well in a future version of WoW Classic.

Optimized Flight Paths

In Patch 2.1, Blizzard made several changes to how Flight Paths work, fixing bugs that caused clipping, and adjusted many flight paths to be shorter and more efficient. Some direct Flight Paths that were added in this Patch include:

Stormwind to Thorium Point (Searing Gorge)

Grom'gol Base Camp (Stranglethorn Vale) to Flame Crest (Burning Steppes)

Ratchet (The Barrens) to:

Gadgetzan (Tanaris)

Astranaar (Ashenvale)

Brackenwall Village (Dustwallow Marsh)

Thunderbluff to Zoram'gar Outpost (Ashenvale)

Business is Booming!

Later on, the Horde would also receive a direct Flight Path from Ratchet to Orgrimmar, skipping over the previously required layover at the Crossroads.

Additional Flight Points

Emerald Sanctuary - Felwood

In the first major patch of The Burning Crusade, a neutral Flight Master was added to the Emerald Sanctuary quest hub near the southern border of Felwood. Both Horde and Alliance players were appreciative of this new Flight Point, as Felwood is one of the longest zones in the game when measured from North to South.

This Flight Point would be especially helpful for Alliance players, since their two closest options in Classic are the Talonbranch Glade all the way in the northern part of the zone or Astranaar in Ashenvale.

Forest Song - Ashenvale

Speaking of Ashenvale, another new Flight Point added in The Burning Crusade was at the Alliance quest hub of Forest Song. Since the Horde already has two Flight Points in this zone, it's only fair to add one for the Alliance as well.

Rebel Camp - Stranglethorn Vale

Another Alliance-exclusive Flight Point was added in Patch 2.3, this time to the Northern-most border of the Stranglethorn Vale, at the Rebel Camp quest hub. Similar to the Emerald Sanctuary Flight Point in Felwood, this was a massive addition for Alliance players, as previously, their only Flight Point brought them all the way to the southern tip of the zone in Booty Bay.

While most Alliance players took the Duskwood Flight Point and walked down to this subzone, the addition of their only exclusive Flight Point in Stranglethorn Vale was much appreciated. Fun fact: the Flight Master at this location is a goblin named Nizzle, and he is the only Goblin in the game who is not neutral.

Mudsprocket - Dustwallow Marsh

Earlier this year, we covered all of the changes to Dustwallow Marsh in The Burning Crusade, and how this zone could be the blueprint for Classic+. While the quest hub of Mudsprocket is an amazing addition on its own, the neutral Flight Point in this Goblin town grants much easier accessibility to the southern portion of the zone to both Horde and Alliance players.

In addition to these adjustments that came in The Burning Crusade, voters on the wowclassic.plus website would also like to see an Alliance Flight Point in the Badlands. Other highly-upvoted taxi options include a Stormwind Harbor with boat travel to the docks of Southshore in the Hillsbrad Foothills, and a functional Ironforge Airport.
