Blizzard Reveals Overwatch Rush: Top Down Mobile Shooter in Development

Blizzard has revealed an early gameplay preview for Overwatch Rush, a brand new top-down mobile shooter set in the Overwatch universe! Much like the main game, Rush features several familiar heroes and objective based gameplay, it appears very similar to the core Overwatch experience, albeit on a new device and from a new perspective.

Based on the preview, returning heroes include Lúcio, Mercy, Pharah, Reaper, Reinhardt, Soldier 76, and Tracer, with a character skin system as well as customizable talents and mods, though no specifics regarding any new systems have been shared. The interface is also very similar to Diablo: Immortal, though it does not appear to be developed alongside an external studio, instead being worked on by an internal Blizzard team distinct from Overwatch proper.

Welcome, heroes!

We’ve got something new to share. While it's still early days, we want to share updates on our progress throughout the development process.

Today, we’re introducing Overwatch Rush, a new top-down Hero shooter designed specifically for mobile set in the Overwatch universe.

Overwatch Rush is being developed by a dedicated team at Blizzard, separate from Team 4, all of whom have deep mobile experience. Team 4 remains fully focused on Overwatch, which will continue to bring exciting and fresh new experiences for PC and console players in its recently launched Season 1 and beyond!

Overwatch Rush is an entirely new game – not a port – built specifically for mobile players. As we prepare for testing Overwatch Rush in select countries and regions, check out our official Discord server for updates on the game.

While there remains a lot of work to do, we’re eager to see how players enjoy what we’ve built so far, and to hear from them on what we should focus on in the coming phases of development.

Our mission is to continue to expand the Overwatch universe by bringing fresh new adventures to players across all platforms. We'll continue to keep you updated on how things are progressing.
