Upgrade Crests Renamed on the Midnight Alpha – More Obvious Names for Each Track

Following up on comments made during recent interviews about making the upgrade system a little easier to understand, each of the new Dawncrest upgrade currencies in Midnight will be directly named after their associated upgrade track, progressing from Adventurer to Myth! We've also datamined which activities each crest will predominantly come from.

Adventurer Crest - Outdoors

Veteran - LFR, Heroic dungeons, Delves 1-5

Champion - Normal Raid, Mythic +2-3, Delve 7-10

Hero - Heroic Raid, Mythic +4-8, Delve 11

Myth - Mythic Raid, Mythic+9s

Previously, there were four types of overlapping crests, with Weathered covering early Veteran upgrades, Carved upgrading Veteran and Champion, Runed overlapping Champion and Hero, and Gilded covering late the Hero and Myth tracks.

In Midnight, however, there are five crests progressing from progressing from Adventurer to Myth, just like the upgrade tracks they relate to. In a recent Q&A, Valorstones were confirmed to be removed entirely in Midnight, and Blizzard developers have also indicated that the upgrade tracks themselves would be streamlined, with heroic-tier items only using heroic crests, and so forth.

Its unclear whether certain activities will still drop higher tier crests, such as current end-tier Heroic bosses dropping Gilded crests, but overall this should make it much easier for players to keep track of what currency they have and what gear it relates to.
