Infernal Hordes were initially introduced in Season 5, allowing players to battle through waves of enemies while making each wave harder than the last, collecting a resource, and fighting a boss at the end. Since then, infernal Hordes have been a staple of efficient mid-to-endgame farming for many players, giving a good mix of crafting materials, chances at generic Uniques and Mythic Uniques, or just target farming one of the Uniques added to the content.
