Updated January 30

World of Warcraft PTR Patch 5.2

  • General
    • New Daily Quest Hub: The Isle of the Thunder King.
      • Here players can join the assault to conquer Emperor Lei Shen's island stronghold, unlock new questlines and daily quest hubs, participate in special events, earn the right to visit the fabled Treasure Room, lay claim to an arsenal of powerful Mogu artifacts for their faction, and more.
      • Each faction's finest are spearheading the assault: the Kirin-Tor Offensive led by Jaina Proudmoore and the Sunreaver Onslaught led by Lor'themar Theron. Earning reputation with these new factions offers heroes the opportunity to receive new quests and reputation rewards, including powerful items and an intimidating new mount.
      • After both the Alliance and the Horde have eked out a foothold on the isle, players can choose to perform quests that are PvE or PvP focused. PvP quests will direct players against opposing faction NPCs, but slaying opposing players will grant credit as well.
      • As the heroes conquer the Isle, they will unlock the powerful Lightning Forge, which will allow Blacksmiths to forge mighty raid-worthy items, as well as classic weapons from the past.
      • Players on the PTR can teleport to the Isle of the Thunder King at the Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes on the western shores of Pandaria. While the Isle of the Thunder King will be unlocked progressively by each realm based on participation in the war effort, initially only some of the Isle’s features will be unlocked. Future updates will include the Shipyard and the Main Courtyard. Some features, including the Treasure Room, will not yet be available.
    • New Raid: Throne of Thunder
      • Emperor Lei Shen, the Thunder King, has returned to wreak his vengeance on Pandaria. It falls to the heroes of the Alliance and the Horde to stop the newly resurrected tyrant and his Zandalari allies in the massive new raid: Throne of Thunder.
      • Throne of Thunder is a sprawling citadel housing 12 new raid encounters, and players that defeat Emperor Lei Shen in Heroic mode can earn the opportunity to face an additional 13th foe.
      • The Raid Finder version of the Throne of Thunder will be divided into 4 different wings.
      • Join the Shado-Pan Assault in their singular drive to see Lei Shen, The Thunder King, defeated once and for all, and gain access to impressive Valor reward items. Reputation with this faction can be earned only within the Throne of Thunder raid dungeon.
      • Please note: During the 5.2 PTR, this raid dungeon will only be available during a limited testing window. Keep an eye on our PTR Discussion forum for details.
    • The Legendary Quest Continues:
      • Wrathion must know the origin and source of Mogu power, and Azeroth's mightiest heroes will aid the Black Prince in finding out what it is. The search for information will take players into the depths of the Thunder King's Palace, and pit them against trials of perseverance and skill. Along the way, they'll unlock the secrets to a new legendary metagem, Crown of the Heavens.
      • Please note: Initially this quest is not available on the PTR, but will be coming soon.
    • New World Bosses: Nalak, the Storm Lord and Oondasta
      • Nalak, the Storm Lord
        • After the Isle of the Thunder King has been conquered, the gate guardian of the Thunder King's citadel will appear: Nalak, the Storm Lord. Players will frequently have the opportunity to test their mettle against him.
      • Oondasta
        • Found in a place that has been lost in time, the great devilsaur lord Oondasta has been outfitted for battle with weaponry and armor by the Zandalari, and awaits players brave enough (or foolhardy enough) to seek him out on the mysterious Isle of Giants found in the seas north of Kun-Lai Summit.
    • Buy The Farm
      • Players that have grown attached to working the land at Sunsong Ranch can now purchase the land from Farmer Yoon. Once the farm is owned by a player, it becomes a rest point like an Inn, where the player can bind and instantly log out. Work orders will pour into the farm from factions across Pandaria, and completing a work order will earn a reputation boost with the issuing faction.
      • Please note: The new Sunsong Ranch features are not available on the PTR, but will be coming soon.
    • New World Boss System
      • All world bosses are now Tap to Faction. This new system offers every eligible player of the same faction that engages a boss the chance to earn loot. Under the new system, players will only be able to earn loot from each world boss once per week, but bonus rolls apply. Bosses will now respawn more frequently as well.

Poll: I Have the Power!

Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Revenge is sweet.

Don’t get mad, get even.

There is something to be said about the trials and travails the heroes of Azeroth go through to rise in power. The path is strewn with dangerous foes that will literally crush you beneath their feet. But, all good things come to those who prevail against those obstacles—like power.  In this poll we wanted to find out, now that it is you who have the power, who among your foes have you sought out for revenge? Who was served the coldest dish?

Moons + Explosives = Lunar Festival!

Every year, the druids of Moonglade hold a celebration of their city's great triumph over an ancient evil. During the Lunar Festival, citizens of Azeroth have the opportunity to honor their elders by celebrating their sage wisdom, sharing in magnificent feasts, and (of course) putting on a fireworks display!

The Event

Activities

The Lunar Festival is a time of celebration for the peoples of Azeroth. They gather to acknowledge their triumph of ages ago, when an alliance of Azerothian races (Night Elves, Tauren, and the proto-dwarven Earthen) defeated the Burning Legion. At the beginning of each year, elders of generations past manifest around the world to impart their wisdom upon all who listen. Should you encounter these venerable spirits in your travels and take the time to heed their wisdom, they may even pass along tokens of their gratitude — Coins of Ancestry, the lessons of a past age in physical form. Gather enough Coins of Ancestry and the Cenarion Circle will open their stores of celebratory garb, fireworks, trinkets, and recipes!

The Cenarion Circle has good cause to celebrate, for the Lunar Festival marks the return of many Ancients that fell in battles past: Goldrinn, Malorne, Aviana, and Cenarius himself. But this celebration is darkened by the eternal torment of one of their own — Omen, a wolf Ancient blessed by the moon goddess Elune, has risen from the depths of Moonglade’s lake. Though Omen was once as noble and proud as any Ancient, he was driven mad by the Burning Legion’s tainted magics during the War of the Ancients. Omen’s immortality means that he is forever cursed to return in his maddened state at the advent of each new year - and this year, he has grown further in power, a challenge for even heroes of level 90. Heroes must make haste to ease this tormented Ancient’s suffering, in the hopes that perhaps next year he will return with a clearer mind.

  • Coin of Ancestry
Coins of Ancestry are used to purchase festival clothing and other special items. You can collect them by completing quests, including the daily quests that are part of the festival.
  • Seasonal Boss: Omen
The great wolf Omen was once a hero of this world. An embodiment of strength and fortune, Omen fought beside the heroes of the War of the Ancients until he succumbed to demonic magics. Turning against his allies, he raged across Azeroth, leaving death and terror in his wake. Omen was finally defeated in Moonglade, and he now sleeps among the silt of Lake Elune'ara. But each year, at the beginning of the festival, he stirs...
  • Elders
During the Lunar Festival, you will have the opportunity to honor your elders; in doing so, you’ll also honor their culture and people. Those who show their elders respect will be rewarded with Coins of Ancestry and Lucky Red Envelopes.
  • Fireworks
The innovative and artistic engineers of Undermine have been slaving away since their display of pyrotechnics in July. Their latest and greatest -- not to mention highly dangerous -- creations will be on display in the cities of the world every hour after sunset. Keep your eyes to the skies, and be sure to stick around for the finale!
  • Revelers
Many soldiers have come home from abroad to engage in the festivities. Share in the merriment and dance with the revelers, or, if you're so inclined, blow a kiss to one that catches your eye. It's all in fun; they appreciate the attention!
  • Festival Outfits
A selection of unique clothing is available to help you join in the festivities. Such outfits have been worn in times past during the Lunar Festival, and each is hand-crafted with only the finest fabrics and other quality components.
  • Merchants & Vendors
These sellers will exchange food, festive clothes, pets, and more for your Coins of Ancestry.
