WoW: Forever Adds Bad Luck Protection on Quest Drops While Grouped

Aggrend has revealed on social media that WoW: Forever has a form of Bad Luck Protection for quest items while grouped.

WoW Classic Developer Josh Greenfield took to X (Twitter) earlier today and explained that WoW: Forever changes how quest items drop while grouped. In World of Warcraft, some quests require players to collect quest items from killing mobs. In WoW: Classic, quest items aren't shared and don't drop consistently. This could often leave some players in a group with low amounts of quest items, while others are done. Because of this, some players felt like they wouldn't want to group on these quests. To incentivize players to be more social and to continue grouping, WoW: Forever has a form of Bad Luck Protection for these quest mobs.

Josh GreenfieldSomeone asked me something earlier about how quest drops work in WoW: Forever and if we are changing that. The short answer is no; however we did do something cool that we haven't really had a good opportunity to talk about yet.

In the interest of our Pro-social approach, we added a bit of under the hood functionality to quests to more predictably round-robin quest items to people who are grouped.

There's nothing worse than killing a million furbolgs and having one guy in your group have 8/10 furbolg butts, and the other guy has 1/10. In WoW: Forever we've got something in place that makes its a bit more consistent that everyone in the group will get drops evenly.

We are still dialing in this system, but if you are afraid to group on drop quests, I'd encourage you to give it a try. It's still going to take time, just like vanilla wow, but it'll be less feast or famine, and you'll definitely kill things much faster.

A bit of grind on these drop quests are part of the vanilla magic we are maintaining, but we can do small things to help it feel more natural and encourage grouping while still maintaining that original design, and that's our goal.

With our Recent Allies feature, you are also likely to keep seeing people you group up with in later play sessions as well. Hell, you might even make a friend!

This is the exact thing that we wanted to help alleviate with this. There's also that awkwardness if you are the guy with 1/10 bear asses and everyone else is finished. its like "its fine guys, you can go, I'll wrap up here on my own". Then everyone feels bad for leaving you in the lurch after getting help.

It's not "pure" round robin. There's still some randomness, but it's more like a bad luck protection if you haven't seen a drop in a while and others are pulling ahead.
