Reddit User Frustrated With Forever's Layering System
Layering in WoW: Forever
As we learned earlier in the WoW: Forever Beta, Blizzard had given us updates on how layering will work in WoW: Forever. Players, especially potential Hardcore Forever players, were happy to see a new warning pop up letting players know when they would be moving to a new layer.
However, there are, unfortunately, some other "features" that players aren't particularly happy with. In previous versions of Classic WoW, whenever someone would invite you to a group, the person invited would move to the group leader's layer. When that person would leave, they would stay on that layer. In WoW: Forever, leaving that group will not only move that person to a new layer, but will also move the group leader to a different layer as well!
This tweet also shows another issue with layering in WoW: Forever. Zones are now on different layers, meaning you can accidentally swap layers when bordering zones. The example above shows two separate layers in Dalaran versus Silverpine Forest, and another example is Tirisfal Glades and the Ruins of Lordaeron above the Undercity.
Layering has always been controversial in WoW, and although some of these updates are seen in a positive light, it's still apparent that it has issues in the eyes of the community. Developer Tim Jones brought up layering in the most recent episode of the WoW: Forever podcast, and brings up that it's still a work in progress and they're making "incremental steps", so maybe we can get some smoother transitions from zone to zone.
