Update: Blizzard has issued an update, confirming that the recrafting bug was fixed, and is working to determine what they can do to identify and provide compensation for affected players.

We’ve been working on it since it first started happening, and it was due to a very rare (and hard to reproduce) bug. Last night, we fixed the bug so that this should not happen again for anyone.
We’re now moving on to determining what we can do, if anything, to identify affected players and provide some sort of restoration. We do not have any answers to that question, but we’re hopeful about it.
We’ll let you know once we’ve got an update on the possible next step.
Original Release
Over the last week, players started to report that recrafting could lose you the 80 crests. The bug still appears to be happening on a rare occurrence and can happen to anyone. Players who encounter the bug happens to just lose 80 Hero or 80 Myth crests.
Blizzard has now acknowledged the recrafting bug, but have no additional information to share other than it’s unlikely that the crests will be returned.

We have seen some reports of this recently, and we’re currently investigating this issue. We don’t have much more information to share right now unfortunately, but it’s unlikely that we’ll be able to restore the crests that were lost.
