But Why Tho? Interview with Ion and Holly
But Why Tho? had an interview with:
Ion Hazzikostas (Game Director)
Holly Longdale (Vice President)
We've summarized the interview below, but you can see the original piece on But Why Tho?.
Interview Summary
Stat Squish
Players tend to have an attachment to certain item levels or player health numbers.
After a day or two of playing with the new numbers, players get used to them.
They don't want to do it very often because it is disruptive.
When the number of digits for stats on a piece of gear gets unwieldy, then they feel like a stat squish is needed.
They want to make sure that with every new release of content, there are goals to strive for.
After hitting level 100 in the Last Titan, they're probably going to look at another level squish.
Forever
All Regions will not be connected.
Forever will have staggered updates across regions due to Time Zones.
They want to coordinate the patches with things like Weekly Resets and off-peak times.
Forever to Modern
The modern team is definitely looking at opportunities to bring things over from Forever.
It could be server infrastructure, lighting improvements, or surnames, but it's not as easy as flipping a switch.
The Lighting changes aren't just an engine improvement. It was done by hand by environmental artists.
They do want Modern to look as good as possible and this is something that players should look forward to down the line.
Forever Zones
Duskwood is much spookier in Forever.
The real-time illumination of carrying a torch or lantern massively enhances the vibe.
