What Players Want Next From Classic
In their excitement, players began to speculate - would this be a new, fresh server, or a merger of Hardcore Era and Hardcore Anniversary servers? WoW's Senior Game Producer, Tom Ellis, explains that this new Hardcore server was just a backup server from launch, that was never needed, and therefore never set live.
Tom Ellis
No new hardcore classic realm, what you saw is an ancient backup launch realm that we never ended up needing. It was started up today in error while we were making massive changes to how we handle our infrastructure deploys and config (what the down time was for).
While this news was somewhat disappointing to the Hardcore playerbase, it also sparked conversations about what players want from the future of Hardcore Classic WoW. Some of the most popular new content, features, or changes discussed include:
A new solo self-found only server
An official Guild-found setting
Hardcore-exclusive Achievements & Titles
Progression into The Burning Crusade
While many of these wishes can be achieved through add-ons, the desire for official modes, settings, and content still burns strong. It was this same desire that led to Blizzard creating official Hardcore servers in the first place.
