Don’t Waste Your Crests By Upgrading A Piece of Gear From 1/6 to 2/6

If you're looking to optimize your Crests, you should never upgrade a piece of gear from 1/6 to 2/6.

Upgrade System Changes in Midnight

In Midnight, the upgrade system has changed pretty drastically. Here's a recap of the changes:

Gear upgrade tracks have 6 tiers.

Gear upgrade tracks only take crests of that type.

Upgrades cost 20 crests, and crafting takes 80 crests.

The crest cap has been increased to 100

Optimizing Your Crests in Midnight

In order to optimize your crests in Midnight, you want to never upgrade a piece of gear from 1/6 to 2/6 if it costs Crests (except for Adventurer track). This is because an upgrade from 1/6 to 2/6 overlaps with the item levels of 5/6 to 6/6 from the previous track, and you can use lower tier crests to upgrade it.

For example, if you want to upgrade a piece from Hero 1/6 to Hero 2/6, this would take 20 Hero Dawncrest. Instead, you should upgrade a Champion piece from Champion 5/6 to Champion 6/6 for 20 Champion Dawncrest, and then get the free crest upgrade for your Hero piece.

You're going to run out of the lower tier crests faster, so you should find as many opportunities to use them as possible since Crests are capped.
