Diablo 4 Season 11 PTR Receives Immediate Backlash From Community

Diablo 4 Season 11 PTR is now live, but players are already frustrated with Sanctification, bugs, and reworks to item systems such as Masterworking. The PTR was already off to a rocky start, plagued by a suite of bugs, incorrect tooltips, and systems operating in unintended ways. While this is expected for a test realm, frustrations have been compounded by the community perceiving changes to items as a downgrade and calling for the Seasonal Sanctification System to be reworked.

Season 11 Overview Season 11 News Coverage

Sanctification Backlash
After testing Sanctification on the PTR, players are already started giving feedback regarding the new item system, and so far it has been overwhelmingly negative. Players on the Official PTR Forums were quick to point out issues with the new shiny system, with JavBoc remarking:

I see how the Systems of Santification works in PTR, and without a doubt it feels super terrible, and I summarize it in 3 main points:

Most results are useless or do nothing, It is not worth the risk of having a grotesquely high percentage of garbage.

Replacing one base affix with another is perhaps the worst of all, yea the system can take away the GA cooldown on shako and replace with life on hit.

The penalty is way too high for the ridiculously small chance of something useful coming out

The summary reflects widespread community sentiment about the new system, with players lamenting that Gear has become more one-dimensional than ever, and Sanctification adds an incredibly RNG layer on top that creates an endless item-incinerator rather than a feel-good progression system.

With the changes to Tempering and Masterworking, upgrading Items is a guaranteed process with little to no variance. What slight variance there is, such as the capstone bonus from Masterworking, can be rerolled, making every item a possible candidate for Sanctification. This is where the problems begin. Sanctifying Uniques is incredibly high-risk, but also low reward. There is a chance for an additional Affix that could give skill ranks, but the possibility of getting "replace affix" as an outcome instead and ruining the item is far higher.

This then requires re-farming the item that was ruined, including the materials used in Tempering/Masterworking, as well as unlocking usage of the Heavenly Forge again, a very tedious process for little payout, especially if the item is a Mythic Unique.

Known Issues for the PTR
Below is the current list of known issues. For the most up-to-date list, check the forum post directly. Of Important note are many graphical issues with Masterworking and Items, both with icons and missing text. Additionally, the list does not yet include a visual bug that incorrectly displays Greater Affixes on items, which can be quite confusing.
