Completing 4 Piece Tier Set Reportedly Allows Entire Warband to Drop Catalyst Charges

Despite Blizzard saying that the Catalyst Unbound achievement is character specific, players have started to report that completing the tier set on one character allows catalyst charges to drop across the Warband.

Catalyst Unbound Achievement

New to Midnight, the Midnight Season 1: Catalyst Unbound has been added and helps prevent the feeling of "wasting" a catalyst charge in fear of getting an upgrade in a future week. Getting your 4-set is a massive DPS upgrade and players may feel like they need to make a difficult decision as they may anticipate getting a higher item level piece soon from Raid, Mythic+ or even the Vault soon, and "wasting" a charge on a lower item level piece would feel bad. This achievement was added to combat this, as extra Catalyst Charges will start to drop after you acquire 4 set on your character.

Blizzard

Acquiring a class set 4-piece bonus now unlocks a character-specific Feat of Strength that will enable Catalyst charges to drop from raid bosses, Mythic+, Bountiful Delves, and Rated PvP on that character for the remainder of the season.

Developers’ notes: The decision to spend Catalyst charges can be difficult early in a season as players anticipate looting more powerful armor in the same slot in the near future. For example, catalyzing a Veteran or Champion helm may feel like a mistake knowing that a Hero helm could be around the corner in your next Mythic+ dungeon. If a player decides to spend that charge and then receives that Hero helm, it may have to sit in their bags for up to two weeks before it can effectively be equipped. This change should empower players to chase their seasonal class set bonuses early on without reservation with the knowledge that additional Catalyst charges will likely be farmable for them just several weeks into the season. In addition, armor pieces with desirable secondary stats in non-set slots such as belts and boots should feel like more viable options earlier in the season.

Account Wide?

Despite Blizzard's Blue Post announcing that the achievement is character specific, we've received two reports that the achievement is actually account-wide and allows alts to start getting extra catalyst charges once a main completes their 4-set. According to Korimae and another anonymous reporter, players who have 4 set have started to get extra catalyst charges on their alts after completing a 4-set on their main.

Not many players will likely get their 4 set this week, as Tier drops are more limited due to the staggered raid release and the Free Catalyst Charge from Achievement can only be acquired through PvP, until next week.

This is not what Blizzard has pitched in the original announcement and this bug (or change) seems to contradict the reasons that this achievement was added in the first place. That being said, if this is intended, this is a great boon for alts with early gearing.
