Community Spotlight: Crendor

This week, we’re shining the spotlight on podcaster and video creator Crendor. In the Warcraft community, few people are as consistently known for bringing laughter to players of all stripes as the man responsible for classics such as If Fans Ran World of Warcraft, Luckydo Rap, and How to Win at Questing. After years of appreciating his works, we asked him to answer some questions, and true to form, he made us laugh.

Q: Where did this all begin for you?
A: I first started gaming with games like Age of Empires, Empire Earth, Empires Dawn of the Modern World, and various other RTS strategy games. Ironically, I never played Warcraft III until after I began playing World of Warcraft, but RTS games are what really got me into gaming in general.

Q: What caused you to switch from strategy games to WoW?
A: The friends I made. My friend's brother kept talking about this huge new massive online RPG, and he talked us all into getting it. I can still remember looking on the old Warcraft website and seeing cooking and fishing and knowing I wanted those as my professions, not understanding that those were secondary professions!

Q: What part of the game did you actually end up liking most?
A: My favorite overall experience playing WoW was Wrath of the Lich King. I loved Northrend as a zone, I raided with a bunch of cool people, and it was right when I started making Youtube videos. It's the expansion that gives me the most nostalgia.

Q: Do you have any advice for new players?
A: If you're just getting started with WoW, I'd tell you to just enjoy the journey. A bunch of people love to power through all the content and try to hit max level, but when you slow down and really appreciate and read each quest, you feel more connected to the world and enjoy that late game content a lot more. Save the power leveling for your alts!

Q: What do you tell people who want to be like you?
A: I've had a lot of people ask me how to start making videos or podcasts, and being successful doing so, and there's really no right answer. What worked for me might not work for someone else, but there's definitely one factor that's overlooked, and that's consistency. I've seen a ton of people get an idea or two, start out strong, and then after three or four videos/podcasts, they vanish. The hardest part of doing this, aside from making your first piece of work, is consistency. What motivated me was a lack of WoW videos fitting my sense of humor, and so I thought, "Hey, I'll just make my own. Maybe people will like them."

Q: What do you think about the future of WoW?
A: I've really enjoyed Legion from what I've played of it. I've only gotten to play a Demon Hunter, once at Blizzcon and once for Alpha, and I've enjoyed it both times. I'm having more fun with it than I did with the Death Knight. At first I wasn't too hyped and didn't want to get my hopes up, but after reading about Legion and playing it for a bit, my hype is in full force again. I played Draenor intensely for a few months, but my motivation fell off after that. I'm hoping Legion pulls me in with that same intensity, but keeps me hooked like Wrath did. So far, so good!

Our heartiest thanks goes to Crendor for chatting with us. If you don’t already have him bookmarked, check him out on Twitter, YouTube, and Twitch. Of course, you’ll want to set aside some time to listen to Cox ‘n Crendor, the legendary podcast that’s sometimes about WoW and always fun.
