In the screenshot above, you can see the cap is no longer referenced, while yesterday the currency specified a total maximum amount.

Cataloged Research Cap Removed – Hotfixed on Live Servers
Just three days ago, Blizzard increased the cap on Cataloged Research from 12 to to 22 thousand, though today the cap appears to have been removed entirely, allowing players to stockpile currency for tier six socket and conduit upgrades! Unlike other upcoming changes, this update appears to be live on all servers.
