As players enter the Forever Beta, it's clear that there is a lot of hype - which leads to one of the largest Beta tests Blizzard has ever had. Virtually every quest mob is camped, and even with the new phasing technology, players are still facing stiff competition for tags on enemies.
Senior Game Designer Josh Greenfield (also known as Aggrend) weighed in on the design philosophy and reasoning behind not switching tagging to the shared version Retail players are used to. Social aspects of Forever are a major influence on virtually every aspect of the game's development, so maintaining some of the friction that lets players have those interactions is hugely important to the team. Make things too easy, and people stop interacting - but make them too hard, and players stop having fun.
