As a result of the recent DDoS attacks against Blizzard's servers, many Worlld of Warcraft players have suffered from poor connections, and in the worst cases, loss of Hardcore characters. Because of these third-party attacks, Blizzard has stated that at their sole discretion they may elect to revive Hardcore characters that perished as a result of these attacks.
