Blizzard Responds to Addon Lockdown Feedback – Out of Combat Restrictions to Be Lifted

Blizzard has responded to feedback about Addon Lockdown in Raids and Mythic+ saying that they're looking to only enforce the restrictions during an active encounter or dungeon run allowing for raid note sharing or loot addons to continue to function.

Midnight Overview

In our initial writeup about What Other Addons Will Be Broken in Midnight, we confirmed that loot councils, gambling, raid notes, and ready check addons would be restricted within instanced content. Blizzard looks to be loosening those restrictions allowing them to be used out of combat or outside of an active Mythic+ dungeon run.

Immediately in this first day of testing, we’ve seen feedback on how currently, there’s a complete lockdown on the ability for addons to parse chat and addon-comms channels while in instances. We’re seeing it break addons that support loot councils, break timers, and other benign communications (e.g. sharing raid notes or M+ keystone information).

We agree that this is starting out excessively broad, and we’re going to make changes to only apply the new logic while there is an active raid encounter or M+ run underway. Our goal will be to make it so that tools that facilitate sharing information before or after combat won’t be impacted.

And we’ll update our Alpha development notes when the above is implemented.
