Blizzard Needs to Fix Midnight’s Nameplates: Shifting, Incorrect Locations, and Visibility Problems Abound

The nameplates on the Midnight Beta have some big issues, constantly indicating that mobs are in the wrong location and constantly shift around in combat making it hard to click the correct one.

Incorrect Locations

One of the biggest issues with with Midnight's Nameplates is the fact that they very often don't accurately portray where mobs are.

Take a look at the image below where I've outlined 3 issues in a screenshot.

Red: Why are these mobs just missing nameplates?

Orange: Why are these nameplates below the mobs?

Green: Why are these nameplates even further below the mobs?

Many players use Nameplates to identify where mobs are, especially to avoid walking into them and aggroing more. Inaccurate positioning of nameplates will cause players to misinterpret where mobs are and cause frustration. The nameplates in this popular clip from Ellesmere show that mobs appear to be falling through the floor.

Blizzard improved the visibility of this nameplates last Wednesday and while it is an improvement, there is still a lot of work to be done.

Greetings!

We have made the following update to Beta.

General

Pushed an update to improve the visibility of stacking nameplates. The client must be updated to apply this change.

A cynic might say, nameplates are find in combat, just don't pull too many mobs. Unfortunately, that's not always possible as here's an example of a boss; a boss in Midnight Season 1 that summons a ton of extra mobs.

The nameplates are all over the place.

Constant Shifting

Another issue with the nameplates is the constant shifting and reordering of nameplates when not much is going on. You can take a look at the clip below -- let's play follow the Subjugator.

In the clip, you can see multiple instances where the nameplates are swapping locations with other nameplates even though not much is happening. Imagine you're trying to target the Subjugator for damage or an interrupt, you're going to have to chase that nameplate down. Where it was 5 seconds ago might not be the same place in the list it was previously.
