Hard Mode Prey, Renown, and Mythic+0 dungeon gear can also save you a bunch of crests!
Equivalent to 6/6 on the Adventurer upgrade track, this achievement marks the point at which that character's gear has grown that particular upgrade track, unlocking the ability to trade crests upward into their higher versions and a big discount for alts still using that crest. The achievement specifically looks at item level though, so it applies even to 233 item level Veteran pieces obtained from Hard Mode Prey Hunts, despite not actually using Adventurer crests to upgrade them. Savvy players with a surplus of either crest type can use this to their advantage though, increasing either an Adventurer piece to 6/6 or a Veteran piece to 2/6 to meet the requirement.
Note the upgrade cost discounted from 20 to 10 crests on alts after having earned the achievement. Thanks Larias!
Not to be confused with the character-specific discount removing crest costs for upgrading another piece of gear to the same item level on that specific character, these seasonal achievements mark the point at which that character's gear has grown beyond each upgrade track, unlocking the ability to trade crests upward into their higher versions and a big discount for that particular type of crest on alts. Previously in Dragonflight and The War Within, this discount was only 33%, but has been raised to 50% in Midnight.
Adventurer of the Dawn discounts Adventurer track upgrades for alts, and allows uptrading Adventurer crests into Veteran.
Veteran of the Dawn discounts Veteran track upgrades for alts, and allows uptrading Veteran crests into Champion.
Champion of the Dawn discounts Champion track upgrades for alts, and allows uptrading Champion crests into Hero.
Hero of the Dawn discounts Hero track upgrades for alts, and allows uptrading Hero crests into Myth.
Myth of the Dawn discounts Myth track upgrades for alts.
The upgrade system has also undergone several other big changes in Midnight, streamlining the various upgrade currencies to try to make them more intuitive and mitigate resource hoarding.
Upgrades now require a small amount of gold instead of Valorstones.
Each upgrade requires 20 crests, of which 100 can be acquired each week.
Each upgrade track uses a crest of the same name (Champion track uses Champion crests).
All tracks have an equal six ranks and only use their associated crest, rather than overlapping.
