When WoW: Forever launched, the minimum deposit for the Auction House had been increased to 1 Silver. This adds a lot of risk to players in the early economy, as losing 1 Silver every time you don't sell an item can quickly add up, especially when money is tight. In an interview with Crix, Kris Zierhut discusses how they handle internal disagreements. At the end of the segment, he addresses the minimum deposit change, noting that it will be changing soon.
Kris ZierhutMaybe the minimum price on the Auction House should be 1 Copper, and not 1 Silver for deposits. We were just talking about that one earlier today and after talking about it with people more, yes, we're changing it back to one copper as the minimum deposit. That's coming. Not yet, but coming.
Whenever this change is live, players will no longer need to take on a significant risk when putting items on the Auction House.
Deposit Formula
When players list an item on the Auction House, a deposit is required which is given back to players if the item successfully sells, but is lost if the item is cancelled or the Auction expires. After this change goes live, the deposit requirement should return to the WoW: Classic formula and depends on the item's Vendor Price and the duration:
DurationDeposit Cost
2 Hours5% of Vendor Price
8 Hours20% of Vendor Price
24 Hours60% of Vendor Price
