What Sword

8 years ago, in the Antorus raid finale cinematic, players witnessed Sargeras plunge his sword directly into Azeroth.

The Sword has been visible in-game for many World of Warcraft expansions and was featured with the tagline "What Sword" during BlizzCon 2023.

Many players have wondered why the marketing for WoW at BlizzCon 2023 was about the Sword when it wasn't featured in War Within or Midnight (so far).

Since the Midnight: What's Next Panel, players have noticed an interesting image. This image shows what appears to be the tip of a sword that is just barely missing the Worldsoul.

In an interview with Paul Kubit, he confirmed that the image does show the Sword just missing the Worldsoul.

Paul KubitYeah, yeah. That's the Sword.

Eagle-eyed viewers have identified that, and yeah, we've been thinking about the Sword and it should become very apparent to people as you play through Eclipse that we haven't forgotten about the Sword. This is not something that is going away. Also, how tragically close it came to the Worldsoul is a testament to how close he came, but also maybe the power of the Worldsoul herself.

After 8 years, we've now seen the other side of Sargeras' Sword, and know how close he actually came to plunging it directly into the Worldsoul itself. It'll be interesting to see what kinds of stories will be told, with players going into the Mantle Vault and the Worldcore raid in Patch 12.2!
