Blizzard is discussing the future of Hardcore World of Warcraft, including lessons learned, design concepts, community stories, and more!

What even is Hardcore Classic?
Hardcore is a bloated term in gaming, but for Blizzard, Hardcore carries a lot of historical weight all the way back to Diablo. Hardcore is inspired by the community and the add-ons made to enable the rules and playstyle. Blizzard is very happy to have been working with the community to make Hardcore great.

How we got here
Season of Mastery started off the push for Hardcore, and the community organized the "Road to Ragnaros", which Blizzard thought was a really cool event for the game. Some devs also tried out the Hardcore ruleset, and the team as a whole decided to give it official support. Using metrics on active players and tracking the hardcore community, they put together a prototype and got it greenlit, which led to Hardcore becoming what it is today.

The experience of Hardcore
If the world wants to kill you, you have to band together to cooperate to survive. That struggle means Hardcore World of Warcraft drives community and friendships more than any other game mode, which Blizzard thinks makes the Hardcore community one of the best.

Hardcore Forever
All the changes in trade skills and more, the extra effort to prepare, and collectibles and improved items from Dungeons and Quests will be an exciting difference from the regular experience that Hardcore has been. The team is super excited to see how players use the new systems in Forever.

In Forever, when a world refresh happens, the game will actually warn you to get to a safe spot before refreshing the world around you. Additionally, when you die in Hardcore in Forever, you can move your character to any non-hardcore mode, rather than being forced to go into PvE.

New Drops, Systems, and Crafts
With all of the new rares, zones, and drops, Hardcore will have new, refreshed rewards that players will be able to explore and optimize after each death. The Legacy system also adds progression that is similar to a rogue-like, where each death will have some bonuses account-wide. The team is very excited to see how the Legacy system works with PvP. Hardcore will have specific Legacy challenges and perks to enhance replayability.

Tips for Forever Hardcore
Knowing the World is a big part of Hardcore, and Forever is a great way for the Devs to shake up leveling and make things more or less dangerous. Being able to continue to add to the experience and push Forever further at all levels opens up new mastery over the game for the Hardcore community in a way that Blizzard is very excited to see how the new unsolved world is going to treat players.

Mak'gora in Hardcore
Mak'gora was teased as something that the team is working on and actively thinking about ways to make Mak'gora tournaments in the future.
