Catalyst Charges Changes in Season 2 – Charges Might Drop From Start

We've found another Catalyst change on the 12.1 PTR and catalyst charges might start dropping from the start.

Tier Set BonusesEnd Game Gearing Changes

This article originally mentioned that this achievement drops 3 Catalyst Charges. This may be incorrect due to ambiguity between tooltips and what is in game and the article has been updated to fix. We apologize for any mistakes.

Achievement Reward

As with every season, there's a new achievement that awards Catalyst Charges when you complete it. The requirements are:

Achieve Ahead of the Curve

Achieve 2k Mythic+ Score (Keystone Master)

Achieve 1.6k PvP Rating

Season 2 is no different and the achievement Midnight Season 2: Serpent Scion has been added to the PTR. While the requirements to earn the achievement haven't been updated yet on the PTR, this achievement rewards a Crystallized Venomblight Manaflux which looks the same at a first glance, but it's actually been changed.

We've tested this on the PTR and can confirm that the Crystallized Venomblight Manaflux currently grants three Venomblight Manaflux. This currency is new to Patch 12.1 and seems to be a fraction of a Catalyst charge. According to the tooltip, you need 5 of these to make a catalyst charge, however the Catalyst only takes 1 charge right now, so it’s unclear what is intended.

Catalyst Achievement Change

The Midnight Season 2: Catalyst Unbound has also been added to Season 2 as well.

The interesting part of this is the reward as this now says that the Manaflux drops “more frequently”. Compared to the Season 1 achievement which says “can drop from additional sources”, this seems to imply that Manaflux might be able to drop right away from doing content.

Looking on the page of Venomblight Manaflux, it seems to indicate that right from the start, Catalyst charges can be “Earned from the following activities:”

Mythic Keystone Dungeons

The Temple of Ula'tek

Bountiful Delves
