Tempest Keep & Serpentshrine Cavern Post-Nerf Difficulty Testing – The Burning Crusade Anniversary

Blizzard has released development notes for The Burning Crusade Phase 2 PTR. The PTR will become available for testing later this week, with raid tests for Tempest Keep & Serpentshrine Cavern beginning Friday, May 1st. As a result of the positive feedback they have received regarding Phase 1 raid difficulty, Blizzard has decided that these raid tests will take place in a post-nerf state.

Should Phase 2 Raids be Pre-Nerf or Post-Nerf?

In addition to the upcoming PTR and raid tests, Blizzard has announced that beginning in Phase 2, 25-player raid bosses will drop one additional Tier Token.

Later this week, the Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary Public Test Realm (PTR) will open for testing the Overlords of Outland update.

This update will include all of the content and features players expect from the second phase of Burning Crusade, as well as some additional adjustments we’re making.

Raid Testing Schedule

Later this week, we will test The Eye and Serpentshrine Cavern.

Friday, May 1 - Sunday, May 3

Raid Difficulty

Over the last couple of months, we have carefully reviewed player progress and completion data for the first raid tier of Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary. We’ve found that the “post-nerf” difficulty has met, and in some ways, exceeded our expectations.

We’ve concluded that the upcoming test of The Eye and Serpentshrine Cavern on the PTR will use a similar post-nerf raid difficulty tuning.
Drop Rates Increased
In 2022, we made a change to Burning Crusade Classic to increase the loot drops from certain 25-player bosses with the launch of Phase 3. For Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary, we’ve decided to make that change with the launch of Phase 2.

Gruul’s Lair

High King Maulgar will now drop 3 tokens for Tier 4 shoulders pieces (instead of 2).

Gruul the Dragonkiller will now drop 3 tokens for Tier 4 legs pieces (instead of 2).

Magtheridon’s Lair

Magtheridon will now drop 3 tokens for Tier 4 chest pieces (instead of 2).

Serpentshrine Cavern

Lady Vashj will drop 3 tokens for Tier 5 head pieces (instead of 2).

Leotheras the Blind will drop 3 tokens for Tier 5 hands pieces (instead of 2).

Fathom-Lord Karathress will drop 3 tokens for Tier 5 legs pieces (instead of 2).

Hydross the Unstable will drop 3 different epic pieces of gear (instead of 2).

The Lurker Below will drop 3 different epic pieces of gear (instead of 2).

Morogrim Tidewalker will drop 3 different epic pieces of gear (instead of 2).

Tempest Keep

Kael’thas Sunstrider will drop 3 tokens for Tier 5 chest pieces (instead of 2).

Void Reaver will drop 3 tokens for Tier 5 shoulders pieces (instead of 2).

Al’ar will drop 3 different epic pieces of gear (instead of 2).

High Astromancer Solarian will drop 3 different epic pieces of gear (instead of 2).

We will plan to make other Phase 3 loot changes to heroic dungeon bosses in Phase 3.

Thank you for helping us test the next phase of Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary!
