Tips & Tricks for Winning Decor Duel

World of Warcraft's version of Prop Hunt is now live with Patch 12.0.5. The basics of this new mode are explained in-game with the introductory quest line, beginning with When is a Chair not for Sitting?, and while the in-game tutorial is sufficient to get you into your first match, we've got some additional tips that may help you earn the advantage!

Decor Duel Objectives, Kits, and Rewards

Hiders

Each team will have the chance to play as Hiders and Seekers during a Decor Duel. Once the match begins, Hiders will have a limited amount of time to choose a piece of Decor to Disguise themselves as, select a Trap, and get in position to remain hidden.

Use Your Hider Abilities

While players will eventually be able to purchase additional Enhancements with the game's currency, Illusionary Coin, Hiders will initially only have access to 3 abilities:

Disguise

Swap

Trap

Select a Trap

Additionally, at the beginning of each match, Hiders will be able to choose one of the following Traps that can be activated to stall Seekers:

Trap: Song Bird

Trap: Sands of Time

Trap: Void Sphere

Trap: Smoke & Mirrors

While all of these Traps are good in their own way, the main takeaway here is to make sure you select a Trap before the match begins. You will only be able to make one selection, and you will only have two Charges of the Trap that you select, so make them count!

Standing Still Attracts Pests

While you may have thought you found the perfect hiding spot, you may need to think again, as staying in one place for too long will attract flies to your location, alerting your enemies to where you're hidden.

Moving every so often to clear these flies will help you fly... under the radar.

Seekers

While the Hiders are setting up and choosing their Traps, Seekers will be able to choose their skill kit, which will determine their Seeker Abilities for the match.

Seeker Abilities

In the beginning, players will only have access to one additional Seeker Ability for each skill kit. Additional abilities can be acquired over time by spending the event currency, Illusionary Coin. There are currently three skill kits to choose from, each with its own starting ability:

Spellbreaker - Dispelling Focus

Arcane Ranger - Anti-Magic Arrow

Nullifier - Nullify Magic

The Spellbreaker fires a continuous stream, as a frontal cone, making it easy to detect Hiders who are directly in front of your character. The Arcane Ranger can shoot an arrow in an area-of-effect circle, revealing Hiders. Finally, the Nullifier's ability is a bit trickier to use, as it shoots a circular orb in the direction that the player is facing; however, the distance and speed at which this projectile travels can be difficult to control. As a new player, we recommend sticking with the Spellbreaker if you prefer finding Hiders within melee range, or the Arcane Ranger if you'd like to reveal them from a distance.

Observe Your Surroundings

As mentioned in the Hiders section, players who stay still for too long will accumulate pests around them. Look out for these pests as a sign that there is a Hider nearby. Additionally, there will be whistling that occurs every so often that will provide a hint at where a Hider can be found. Make sure to keep your eyes and ears open at all times!

For both Hiders and Seekers - Have fun, and make sure you collect your loot! Regardless of whether you win or lose, you should leave each match with at least 0 Illusionary Coin, which can be used on new Abilities and Enhancements, or Transmog, Housing Decor, and even a Mount!
