Spell Density Setting Not Working – Bug Fix in Development

Responding to a question about the updated Spell Density options in Patch 11.2, Blizzard has confirmed that it is not working as intended and a bug fix is being developed, though with no ETA to share at this time.

Is the new spell density working?

I’ve changed it and didn’t notice any difference at all. I tried it on the world boss, and it seems like the same old spell density we had in 11.0 and 11.1.

My friends tried it too, same result.

Is it just not working, or is this “new” spell density basically the same as the old one?

We’ve identified a bug with this new function, and we’re developing a fix for it.

We’ll include the fix in our Hotfixes Update when it goes live.

Meant to reduce the amount of unimportant audio/visual clutter from allied spells in group activities, Spell Density settings were originally added all the way back in Shadowlands, though they've never actually seemed to do anything, with the vast majority of users reporting no discernable visual difference. These settings were then revisited in Patch 11.2, citing several improvements, though no list of spells meant to be affected were ever provided and the setting continues to make little to no impact. Today's bluepost did not confirm the extent of issues with the setting, though the acknowledgement of a bug suggests it continues to have little to no effect.
