Powershifting is Out, Shifting Power is In: Feral Druid Changes Analysis in WoW: Forever

Recently, Feral Druids in WoW: Forever saw some interesting changes with the addition of the Shifting Power talent. Our Feral class expert Lexolas weighs in on these changes and what it means for Feral in Forever.

"Powershifting" removed, "Shifting Power" added - New Talent for Feral Druid DPS

In the latest update to the Forever Beta, the Druid talent tree was updated; more specifically, two completely new talents were added Shifting Power and Improved Shifting Power. These talents are a much-needed addition after the change to Furor from Vanilla to Forever. Shifting Power effectively does the same as Furor did for Feral Druid DPS in Vanilla with "powershifting", but with a few changes.

Shifting Power has a 16-second cooldown that can be reduced to 8 seconds with 2 points in Improved Shifting Power.

Shifting Power doesn't require a macro, making it more available and convenient for less experienced players.

Shifting Power doesn't remove slows or snares, like "powershifting" did in Vanilla.

Shifting Power

Instantly convert 55% of Base Mana into 40 Energy. Shifting Power's cost is reduced by effects that reduce the cost of Shapeshifting.

While adding Shifting Power, Feral Druids lost Tiger's Fury and the King of the Jungle talent, which gave us 60 Energy. For PvE, this change is beneficial, although we lost the 15% damage increase with 20% uptime; more Energy is more important. For PvP, however, this change removes a good amount of the burst in Cat Form. Another big thing for PvP with this change is the abundant mana usage. Furor makes it so shifting from Cat Form to Bear Form and back into Cat Form removes all your Energy, meaning you would have to Shifting Power to get any Energy; now this could be an oversight, as the tooltip wording of Furor makes it sound like you should keep the Energy you had either way; you just shouldn't gain Energy while in Bear Form. This is also bad for general utility, as you will now lose all your Energy if you want to use either Feral Charge to interrupt a cast or stun with Bash. With Tiger's Fury, this was not as big of an issue, but now you have to spend a global cooldown and mana just to be at the point you would be at instantly as you shifted into Cat Form in Vanilla World of Warcraft.
