If you're looking to play a class with the highest single target damage on a boss encounter, then you should be playing a Rogue in WoW: Forever. Kris Zierhut revealed on today's WoW: Forever podcast that Rogues will have the "highest single target damage" in the game. He indicates that this metric is on a Patchwerk-style encounter and doesn't include mechanics, but they seem to have a specific design in mind for Rogue in WoW: Forever and their strength will be single target damage. He mentions that if Rogues aren't the highest single target, then why are there Rogues.

But that said, to reassure PvE Rogues mostly, not the PvP ones, Rogues will be the highest single target damage dealers in the game, given mechanics, given the encounter. But if it's a, we fight this boss in a standstill-type fight, they will do the highest single target damage in the game and that's going to be one of the biggest reasons why you bring with you.
