Plunder The Vaults of Atal’Utek to Claim Corrosive Power

As players explore the Coiled Isle in Patch 12.1, they'll inevitably be drawn into the deep underground Vaults of Atal'Utek, which feature corrosive power for those able to withstand the poison!

The Vaults of Atal'Utek

The Vaults of Atal'Utek are a subzone of The Coiled Isle, which feature a series of public events in which players will combat the Children of Ula'tek, earning reputation with Zul'jarra's Forces and Corrosive Coins that can be offered to the Altar of Corrosion to gain new powers active across the entire isle.

Breaching the Vaults

The Vaults of Atal'Utek can be entered through three separate entrances on the western side of the isle, as soon as players complete What Lies Beyond the Fog early in the Patch 12.1 campaign. Although you cannot fly in the underground area, ground mounts will gain The Serpent's Path: a massive speed boost to get them into the main area quicker.

Once inside, there are many quests and activities, which players will become familiar with while completing Into the Vaults of Atal'Utek. Unlike other zones, there aren't any major treasures or rare spawns to hunt down, though there are several useful items scattered throughout to help players navigate and survive the deadly poison pits. More than anything else, this is a combat zone.

The vault entrances are all fairly obvious once you see them. In case they're not, they are also marked on the map.

Assault on the Temple
The main objective within the vaults is to complete Patrols, Strikes, and Incursions. These public events spawn very frequently throughout the underground area, so there is practically always something or many things happening at the same time, with little concern of arriving too late.

Each week, players will be tasked with completing all three of these events for the Purging the Vaults weekly quest, and there are several daily quests to complete one or another as well, though players can continue farming the vaults for more currency and renown. Players

Temple Patrols

Temple Patrols are the most simple Assault activity, featuring quick objectives that can be completed alone by a player in a minute or two. Although they each only award a Handful of Corrosive Coins (20) and a small amount of gold, they are a convenient way to work toward completing the weekly Purging the Vaults quest without investing a lot of time. Three patrols will be active every 10 minutes. Due to some of them triggering whenever you approach nearby, you may cancel any active patrols by speaking to Warleader Abdumati in the Amani Foothold.

5 of the following patrol types may be encountered each week while exploring the Vaults of Atal'Utek:

Temple Patrol: Ash to Ash — Burn 6 Slain Warriors.

Temple Patrol: Breath and Bile — Collect 5 Rotten Pneuma and 5 Ophidian Bile.

Temple Patrol: Broken Bonds — Free 6 Amani Soldiers.

Temple Patrol: Scavenged Weapons — Gather 8 Scavenged Weapon from the ground.

Temple Patrol: Slay the Restless — Defeat 6 undead nearby.

Temple Patrol: Slay Children of Ula'tek — Defeat 6 Children of Ula'tek forces.

Temple Patrol: Laid to Rest — Locate and burn a nearby spirit's bones.

Temple Patrol: Calming the Dead — Assist with 5 elements of a ritual for Er'inye.

Temple Patrol: Vengeance for the Dead — Defeat a nearby enemy that has been marked.

Temple Patrol: Congealed Venom — Gather 8 Congealed Venom.

Temple Patrol: Dragged Below — Rescue 5 Desperate Warriors by pulling with a rope.

Temple Patrol: Siphon Venom — Siphon Venom from a totem, avoiding its ground effects.

Temple Strikes

Temple Strikes get a little more complicated, asking you to complete two related objectives that often involve defeating Elite foes. While they can still be completed solo if necessary, bringing a friend or two certainly won't hurt! You will be rewarded for this greater effort with a Corroded Pouch, which contains 75 Corrosive Coins, 5 Veteran Mistcrests, and a chance of receiving Voidlight Marl or Veteran track gear. One Temple Strike will always be active so long as there is no current Temple Incursion event.

3 of the following Temple Strikes will be active each week, rotating in a cycle:

Temple Strike: Profaned Pyres — gather souls of defeated enemies, burn them in nearby pyres, and use their flames to smash sarcophagi.

Temple Strike: Overflowing Venom — Defeat Summoned Snakes and interrupt 4 Summoning Rituals.

Temple Strike: Purifying Earth and Sky — Approach the Totem of Earth or Totem or Sky to assume the form of a Spiritclaw or Spiritwing and collect orbs.

Temple Strike: The Underbelly — Help drive back the forces of Ula'tek deep in the Underbelly at the northernmost end of Atal'Utek, defeating three named elites and normal enemies.

Temple Strike: Ruuk'jar's Clutch — Venture into nearby portals, destroying the many eggs of Ruuk'jar inside nearby chambers.

Temple Strike: Cursed Depths — Enter marked crevices beneath the Seal of Wrath, then defeat the foes within.

Temple Incursions

Temple Incursions are the most involved Assault activity, featuring multiple objectives that must all be completed within a 10-minute time period. You will need at least a party of players to complete them in time. Fittingly, the toughest challenge will also provide the greatest rewards in the form of a Corroded Satchel containing 175 Corrosive Coins, 10 Veteran Mistcrests, and a greater chance of gear. Temple Incursions will occur 15 minutes after the previous one has ended, taking place immediately after the current Temple Strike is completed.

There are 3 possible Incursions:

Temple Incursion: Summoning Ritual — Similar to the Pool of Mixed Monstrosities in Maldraxxus, players must gather a total of 21 ritual ingredients to summon and defeat an ancient spirit.

Temple Incursion: Cache of the Three — Defeat enemies near three shrines to claim their staves, then guard the players carrying them as they return to the Cache.

Temple Incursion: Supplies Must Flow — Guard a supply wagon as it pushes through hostile territory, overcoming multiple barricades and enemy forces.

Ancient Foes

Ancient Foes are the culmination of your efforts in Temple Assaults, awakening immediately after successfully completing a Temple Incursion. As with an Incursion, you will only have 10 minutes to defeat one before failing the objective. Should you defeat an ancient foe, you will receive a Venom-Drenched Sack containing 200 Corrosive Coins, 10 Champion Mistcrest, and a Veteran piece of gear (in addition to looting a Corrosive Soul and Venom-Cursed Fragment from your first defeated Foe of the week).

There are 3 potential Ancient Foes to face, all with the same rewards, though only one will be available each week:

Congealed Malice — A massive slime monster

Susarikk — One of Ulatek's earliest progeny

Khu'tulak — An ancient Amani spirit, now restless

Claiming Corrosive Power

Er'inye will exchange ever increasing amounts of the Corrosive Coins players eaern for points of Spirit Corrosion, which unlock various bonuses within the Altar of Corrosion. Excess coins may also be used to purchase mounts, pets, transmog, and decor from the Skull of Er'inye.

15 points of Spirit Corrosion are gained from coins, 4 from unique treasures, and 2 from renown, for a total of 21 points.

The Altar of Corrosion grants several bonuses, ranging from reduced poison damage, to cheat deaths, hidden treasure caches, increased damage, and rallying ancient spirits to your cause, though only within the Vaults and Coiled Isle. Upon collecting eight points of Spirit Corrosion and discovering the Codex of the Soul Coilers, however, players will also begin to unlock Corrosive Gifts: another set of more combat-oriented bonuses. These poisonous powers can be used in Delves, Ritual Sites, and the rest of the open world outside of the Coiled Isle, though they are still restricted from pinnacle end-game content, so they will not be available in Dungeons, Raids, or PvP.

Every 8 Spirit Corrosion unlocks a new power, up to two of which can eventually be used together, and freely swapped at any time.

Between public events, the Altar of Corrosion, and the Corrosive Codex, there's a lot to learn about the venomous Vaults of Atal'Utek, so take a look at our full guide to learn more!
