Azra’tec Delve Boss Buffed on 12.1 PTR – Simon Says Memory Now Harder

The Azra'tec Delve on ?? difficulty has been buffed recently on the Patch 12.1 PTR, increasing the number of memory game steps on each intermission, and preventing the strategy of completely ignoring it.

If you're going for Fabled Let Me Solo Him: Azta'rec on the week of August 18th, here's what you should know about the recent changes to Azta'rec!

Memory Game

As previously mentioned, at 90%, 60% and 30% health on Azra'tec, the boss enters a Simon Says memory game.

Since the last time we covered this, these memory games now get harder with each intermission with the sequence getting longer every time. The first safe sequence is now 5 safe spots long, the second is 6 safe spots, and the final memory game is now being a sequence of seven.

You can see in the video below that the Memory Game that occurs at 30% now has a pattern of 7 that you need to remember.

Players will now need to remember the pattern of 7, while also dodging waves, and killing the add. There are a couple ways to help remember the pattern:

Place down World Markers and remember the world markers

Remember the starting location, and then remember the direction (left/right/across)

You don't have a lot of time to remember the sequence, but have more time to complete the second time through.

Penalty for Failure

Blizzard has added a new penalty for failing the memory game, as Tanks could previously just stand in every single one. Getting hit by any memory game cone, including the telegraphed ones, applies Ula'tek's Mark, a debuff which increases all Nature damage by 500% for the rest of the encounter. This includes the waves, future Memory game mistakes, pools on the ground, and the frontal cone -- turning all of these basically into a one-shot.

This prevents Tanks from being able to ignore memory altogether.

Tanks Still the Best?

It does look like Tanks are still the best because the boss still melees very hard, and moves very quickly, making him basically unkitable. Tanks will have no issues surviving his autoattacks during the main phases, whereas DPS will be fighting for their life a lot of the time. If you want to really only have to worry about the Memory Game and not about survivability, a Tank seems like the way to go.
