(FIXED) How to Maximize Damage Buff on Last Boss of Maisara Caverns

Struggle with Rak'tul no more with a new strategy that maximizes the damage buff in the intermission of this boss fight!

This was hotfixed yesterday and no longer works. We apologize for the mistake.

Midnight Season 1 Overview Midnight Season 1 Rewards

Rak'tul Damage Buff Strategy
The last boss of Maisara Caverns, Rak'tul, has a damage buff that players can earn during the Soulrending Roar intermission. After the roar goes off, players are sent back to the start of the bridge. While making their way back to the boss, there are multiple Malignant Souls casting Eternal Suffering.

Whenever a player interrupts the Eternal Suffering cast, the party gains a stack of Spectral Residue, granting 25% increased movement speed, damage, healing, and absorption effects for 25 seconds. This buff stacks, with a max of six stacks available if all Malignant Souls are interrupted.

A new strategy from Bansherz allows players to maximize the uptime on this buff, allowing players to deal massive amounts of damage to Rak'tul!

After Soulrending Roar goes out, the boss has a split second where it chases after the tank. If positioned properly, the boss will walk over the barrier that spawns at the start of the fight. The tank will need to position the boss as close to the barrier as possible before the cast begins to ensure it passes through the barrier.

Once the intermission begins, players are sent back to the start of the bridge. Players will interrupt five of the six Malignant Souls while making their way back to the boss. Instead of crossing over the barrier like usual, players will stay put, slamming as much damage as they can with the Spectral Residue buff active. When the buff has around 6 seconds remaining, have a player go back down the stairs and interrupt the final Malignant Soul. Once the final mob is interrupted, players may cross the barrier.

If done correctly, this gives players almost a full minute of dealing bonus damage and healing to Rak'tul. With proper setup, this strategy can save your group from having to go into a second intermission, saving loads of time in Mythic+ runs!

Downsides to this Strategy
While this strategy could lead to a huge time save, there are a few risks that are worth mentioning.

Intentionally not crossing over the barrier allows Withering Soul to stack higher, causing more damage to the party. The healer will need to be ready to heal this and keep the group alive.

Additionally, missing the final Malignant Soul causes the party to lose all their stacks of Spectral Residue. This causes the party to miss out on extra damage and healing to Rak'tul.
